Chapter 11 Only when You Leave the Langley Group
Charlotte felt a bit tortured.
Sure enough, it was despicable to be a mistress.
She believed that it would be the best for her to end her relationship with Jason as soon as possible.
"Ms. Seinfield, here's the information about the Hoyce Group you've asked for."
Janice walked up to Charlotte with a stack of information. Seeing that Charlotte didn't look well, she got a bit worried. "I can help with the contract if you need it, Charlotte. Feel free to instruct me. You don't have to bear this alone."
"You've done a good job by sorting out the information." Charlotte smiled at her and then buried herself in the information.
With great patience, she organized the information into different categories.
The Hoyce Group had just moved back to the country with its headquarters overseas. Therefore, the group hadn't made a domestic name for itself.
However, the new person in charge, Silas, was a man with ambition and means. Not long after he returned to Porenia, he got a few huge projects, which made it difficult for Charlotte to have him modify the contract.
Distressed, Charlotte closed the file.
She randomly flipped through the document when she suddenly spotted the contact number at the end of the contract. Perhaps she wasn't at a dead end yet. There were two days left, and she still had a chance to fix her mistake.
Charlotte tried to add Silas on WhatsApp. She didn't set her hopes on it, but unexpectedly, Silas friended her after she waited for a short while.
Charlotte was overjoyed and immediately greeted him by sending a message.
However, Silas didn't reply right away.
Charlotte didn't get worried but waited with patience.
But after she waited until afternoon, she hadn't got a reply from Silas.
Since Charlotte kept thinking about it, she had been quite absent-minded and hadn't come back to her senses when Jason instructed her.
"Charlotte!"
Jason called out to her with his voice lowered. He was obviously angry, which startled Charlotte.
She almost dropped the document she had just printed. "Mr.-Mr. Langley..."
"Are you not yourself because of Silas?" Jason sounded a bit hostile.
"No, Mr. Langley. I'm just wondering how to fix the contract."
With that, Charlotte pursed her lips and asked, "You said in the morning that you will handle this. Do you mean it, Mr. Langley?"
If Jason handled it on his own, she wouldn't need to tangle with Silas, who was an experienced and scheming man.
Jason snorted and said, "That depends on your hard work, which I've mentioned. It's too bad that your work in the morning didn't please me much."
Charlotte felt that he was belittling her. She clenched her fists hard while forcing a smile.
"I'll try to do it better, Mr. Langley."
"Go make me my coffee!" Jason felt annoyed to see her so complaint, so he ordered her impatiently.
Charlotte heaved a long sigh and walked out of the office when her phone buzzed.
It was Silas calling.
Charlotte got excited and walked to the side as she picked up her phone.
"Hello, Mr. Hoyce."
Silas was fiddling with his pen when he asked with a smile, "Have you considered the deal I offered, Ms. Seinfield?"
Charlotte was baffled. "What? What deal?"
Silas chuckled. "As long as you leave the Langley Group and work for me as my assistant, I'll agree to modify the contract, Ms. Seinfield. That will be a great favor from me, so I can't possibly agree to it without asking for something in return, can I?"
Charlotte tightened her grip on the phone. Although she was determined to leave the Langley Group, she didn't wish to throw her arms at another man.
"The mistake I made is quite serious, and Mr. Langley will never allow me to leave until I fix it, Mr. Hoyce. Moreover, I don't think I would be capable enough to be..."
"Are you telling me no then, Ms. Seinfield?" Silas paused a bit when his tone grew harsher. "Since that's the case, it's a no-go on modifying the contract."
He hung up the phone right away.
Charlotte frowned. She kept thinking about what she should do to fix this, but she didn't know what to say to Silas.
[I'll only modify the contract if you leave the Langley Group and join the Hoyce Group.]
When Charlotte got that message from Silas, she fell silent.
After she brought coffee to Jason, she left his office and returned to her workplace in a daze.
Silas told her that he would modify the contract if she joined the Hoyce Group. She wondered if it would work by telling Jason about it.
When it was night, Charlotte made dinner and acted nice to Jason in the apartment.
She supposed getting either Jason or Silas to back down would be in her favor.
Jason remained silent when she acted nice to her as if he took whatever nice gestures she made for granted.
Charlotte slowly grew disappointed when she noticed that he wasn't making his stand.
Perhaps Jason merely kept her as his mistress, so why would he be willing to lose so much money for a mistress?
When it was late at night, Charlotte messaged Silas with some hope in her heart while Jason was asleep, wishing that he could change his mind.
After she sent the message, she put her phone by the bedside before she tried to sleep.
Unexpectedly, Silas replied to her message at midnight when Jason happened to wake up.
When he saw Charlotte's phone screen light up, he took the phone and got furious as he read the message from Silas that asked Charlotte to leave the Langley Group and join the Hoyce Group.
Jason felt betrayed. He found it unbelievable that Charlotte, who had been acting nice to him, had pleaded Silas behind his back.
For a moment, Jason was so mad that he forgot about Charlotte's resignation. He merely knew that he couldn't have her leave the company, otherwise, she would be with another man, which he couldn't accept.
Perhaps his fury was too obvious. Charlotte suddenly felt a chill while she was sleeping. She opened her eyes in a daze, trying to pull up the sheets when she was startled by Jason sitting by the bed.
"Mr. Langley?"
Confused and sleepy, Charlotte called out to Jason. Then, she saw her phone in his hand, and the screen showed her messages with Silas.
Charlotte completely got sober as she tried to explain, "I..."
"What has Silas offered you that makes you so desperate to turn to him?"
Seeing that she was stuttering, Jason got even more furious and questioned her in a harsh voice.
Charlotte reached out and tried to lock her phone, but Jason seized her wrist, making her unable to move.
"That's not the case. I didn't agree to his request..."
"You haven't agreed, but if I don't fix your mistake, you'll turn to him, won't you?" Silas's eyes were filled with madness, which slowly broke Charlotte apart.
"You slept with me for money, and now you're pleasing Silas for money. Are you just that cheap, Charlotte?"
Charlotte looked up with some tears in her eyes as she asked angrily, "Am I so lowly to you?"
Jason didn't answer but just ripped open her clothes mercilessly.
"No! Jason!" Charlotte was terrified and tried to push him away, but she was just powerless to do so.
"I haven't agreed to break up with you, but you're already so devoted to him. How unbelievable!"
Jason silenced her by eating her up, which didn't stop until it was morning.
He didn't let go of her until her body went limp.
When Jason went to the bathroom to wash up, Charlotte curled up in the sheets with tears rolling down her face.
Sad and desperate, she made up her mind to end her wicked relationship with Jason.
