Chapter 12 Already a Traitor
After Jason messed with her for an entire night, Charlotte's face turned more pale.
As the throbbing pain in her belly hit her, her forehead was drenched in fine sweat.
Jason involuntarily got worried upon seeing her that way. However, he looked away from her sorry state at the thought of her being together with Silas.
He walked toward the door but returned after taking a few steps. Standing by the bed, he looked condescendingly down at Charlotte, who was gasping to make herself feel better. His voice was filled with impatience. "Are you not feeling well?"
Charlotte didn't expect him to walk back. She forced a smile, which appeared quite sarcastic. "Are you asking for credit for your incredible job?"
She couldn't figure out why he failed to realize how hard he had gone on her.
Jason froze a bit as he felt quite guilty, which was weird, but then he stopped feeling that way and asked indifferently, "Do you need me to buy some medicines for you?"
"No, thanks. I got the meds I need here."
Jason's face turned more gloomy. He said before leaving, "You're allowed to take leave today."
When the door was shut, Charlotte revealed a painful look as she pulled open the drawer to retrieve the pills her doctor had prescribed to her to help keep her baby before gulping them down.
When Charlotte finally felt better, she didn't rest but got up and tidied things up before heading to the company.
She now had two days, so she needed to hurry up and fix the contract.
Charlotte arrived at the company in time. When she was about to swipe in, the alarm went off, and the huge noise startled her.
She didn't expect her card to be expired.
Charlotte checked it in a daze. When she was about to call Jason, she looked up and saw Veronica walking toward her with an arrogant look on her face.
"You're fired, Charlotte."
"What?" Charlotte frowned slightly. The human resource department had never informed her that she was fired, and Jason didn't say anything about it when he left in the morning.
Could it be that Jason had fired her because he thought that she was joining the Hoyce Group?
"How could you even play dumb by now? You've caused a huge loss to the company, and Jason has to go through a lot of trouble to fix your mistake."
Veronica scolded her while pointing at her. There were many staff members of the company around, who had stopped to watch the scene, but none of them dared to come up to mediate.
Charlotte snorted and took a step forward. "You know well what's up with the company's loss. You made my card expired, didn't you?"
Charlotte lowered her voice and whispered in Veronica's ear, "You haven't married Mr. Langley yet, Ms. Jules, so why are you so desperate to interfere in the Langley Group's business?"
As expected, Veronica was pissed. "You're just a bitch. I..."
"What's the fuss about?" Suddenly, a low voice sounded.
"Thank God you're here, Jason! Charlotte talks so insolently. Not only has she caused a huge loss to the company due to her mistake, but she is also acting very arrogantly. It's only right to kick her out of the Langley Group!" Veronica immediately rushed over and held Jason's arm.
Jason looked down at her arm and frowned a bit, taking his arm from hers.
"It's not your place to make this decision."
Veronica's face turned ashen. She couldn't believe that Jason was still speaking up for Charlotte.
Jason shot a glance at Charlotte before turning to walk toward the elevator. He said indifferently, "Get in now."
Charlotte hurriedly followed behind.
The farce ended, which Charlotte didn't take seriously.
She had long been used to Veronica's tricks against her. She was now mostly concerned about the contract with the Hoyce Group.
"How could you be so calm to scroll through your phone here, Charlotte? Don't you know that Mr. Langley made a huge scene just now?"
Janice secretly walked over and leaned into Charlotte's ear to complain.
Charlotte looked up at the tightly shut door to the CEO's office. "Why did he make a scene?"
"I heard that it's because of your expired card. Ms. Jules bribed the manager of the human resource department to suspend your card, and Mr. Langley directly fired that manager. Now every member of the department is quite terrified and worried if they will be implicated as well."
At that point, Janice lowered her voice. "I think you're quite special to Mr. Langley, Charlotte. You seem to matter to him much."
Charlotte froze but soon came back to her senses.
She guessed Jason didn't fire the manager of the human resource department for her sake but because Veronica had violated his rules.
When Jason crushed his opponents among his family members, he valued power more than everything else.
Veronica had violated his rules by by passing the authorities of the Langley Group to fire Charlotte on her own accord.
"Charlotte, are you and Mr. Langley..."
Before Janice could finish her words, Charlotte hurriedly covered her mouth.
"It's not allowed to spread such rumors in the company. Don't make random guesses if you want to keep your job. Mr. Langley is just my superior, and there's nothing going on between us."
Janice nodded dully.
"Get back to your work." After Charlotte asked Janice to leave, she took the organized contracts and planned to go to Silas once again.
She decided to use one of the projects she was handling to get what she wanted from Silas.
Charlotte supposed Silas wouldn't turn her down since he was a man with ambition.
Just as Charlotte walked out of the office door, she was stopped by Jason.
"Where are you going?"
"To the Hoyce Group." Charlotte didn't hide her intention and pointed at the contract she was holding. "I only have two days left, so I have to put more effort in it."
Jason's eyes darkened as he stared at Charlotte with some gloom in them.
He walked up and took her wrist. "You can't go to him!"
Jason felt utterly agitated when he thought of the scene where Silas stared at her with ill intentions. And now, it seemed that she couldn't wait to go to him, which pissed Jason off.
"I have to fix this, Mr. Langley. It's about 2 billion dollars. I..."
"It's your mistake. If you want to deal with it, do it in your free time!"
Jason was so unreasonable that he took away Charlotte's contract. When he read it, he got mad. "Are you trying to give the project in Northtown to the Hoyce Group? I can't believe this. You haven't left the Langley Group yet, but you're already a traitor."
"I'm not..."
"If you have the guts to give that project to the Hoyce Group, I'll press charges right now instead of two days later." Jason threw the contract at the table.
He clicked his tongue upon seeing Charlotte's upset look when he suddenly thought of a way to threaten her. "If you're put into prison, you'll have no one take care of your mother in the hospital."
Charlotte got a bit mad since what Jason said didn't make sense.
It would be a win-win situation if the Langley Group worked on the Northtown project with the Hoyce Group, so why would she be a traitor?
Veronica heard the two quarreling from afar, so she hurried over to calm Jason down. "Calm down, Jason. Ms. Seinfield isn't family, after all, so it's natural for her to be not considerate enough. What she's doing makes sense."
Charlotte looked up at her, dwelling on what she was saying.
However, Veronica showed no fear and stared back at her. "What now, Ms. Seinfield? You're quite intimate with Mr. Hoyce, aren't you? I saw you two flirting with each other, and you must be in cahoots. This contract is your scheme, isn't it?"
"You're quite good at making random guesses, Ms. Jules," said Charlotte with a sneer.
"See? She's getting more and more excessive, Jason!" Veronica held Jason's arm and acted as if she had been wronged. "She's even giving the Northtown project to the Hoyce Group on her own accord. She'll probably reveal the company's top secrets to them. Jason..."
"Shut up!" Jason couldn't stand the fuss she was making.
Veronica was too startled to go on with what she was saying.
It was horrifying when Jason lost his temper, so she had to be cautious.
"Follow me!" said Jason to Charlotte.
Charlotte was a bit scared. There would always be trouble every time Jason called her into his office. What they did in the early morning had brought abnormal fetal movement to her baby. If that happened again, she wouldn't be able to take it.
