“It was that simple then. No great proclamations? You sold your soul for some measly money?”
Arturo’s words were biting and Mikey felt them cutting him to his core.
“I needed the money. It was wrong of me but desperate times called for desperate measures.”
Arturo scoffed.
The man turned around to look at his son in law. He pointed at Mikey and felt a pang of guilt at the disappointed expression on Lorenzo’s expression.
Arturo could have been softer in his questioning but betrayer’s were dangerous in this line of work. One slip up and anyone could end up dead. Whole families could be ripped apart. It was a cruel world made even crueler by backstabbers.
“It’s so simple isn’t it? You were desperate and then caused a whole lot of pain.”
Arturo sighed. He rubbed at his forehead. He needed to think things through. He knew Lorenzo was too emotionally attached. The man wouldn’t be able to think straight.
One glance at Mia and Arturo knew the same would be said for her.
