Chapter 9 Something Wrong with the Contract

As Jason gently caressed her, Charlotte had no way to shove him away. Even though her sanity kept telling her not to fall for him, Charlotte failed to resist as her body trembled slightly since she was long used to his touch. "Don't bite your lip. I need to hear you voice." Jason kept sticking in while stroking her waist to turn her on. And then, he pressed it hard, which made Charlotte straighten her back. She stopped biting her lip and started to enjoy it. Her moans were nonstop as he thrust in. When Charlotte was dazed, the curtains moved slightly when a breeze blew in, which awakened her. Curled up in the soft sheets, Charlotte stretched her back when she felt her sore part. She gasped and completely came back to her senses. She stood up and looked around the room. Jason was no longer there. She felt as if what they did last night was merely a dream. Charlotte came to the building of the Langley group. With her long curly hair tied up the back of her head, she seemed to be glowing in the sun as she smiled and waved at her coworkers who passed by. Charlotte was in a good mood, so she didn't notice that her coworkers were forcing their smiles. Some of them wanted to say something to her but hesitated. When Charlotte got into Jason's office, Veronica threw a stack of contracts at her and madly questioned, "Are you out of your damn mind, Charlotte? How could you mess up the contract? Do you think 0.2 billion and 2 billion are the same thing?" Confused, Charlotte asked, "What do you mean?" "I mean what I just said! Langley Group's initial contribution was 0.2 billion dollars in cooperation with the Hoyce Group. Take a look at the number you signed!" Charlotte incredulously picked up the contract and checked the number on it twice, which was indeed 2 billion dollars. She found it hard to breathe as she had never expected to mess up the contract at the critical moment. However, she had always been cautious, so she had clearly reviewed the contract before printing it. She was sure there was no mistake about the number at that time. "I'm framed, Mr. Langley. On the document in my laptop, the number shows 0.2 billion dollars, which I'm sure of." Charlotte looked up at Jason, who seemed angry on the side before she mustered up her courage to say, "Please give me a chance to prove it." "That won't be necessary. I've checked your laptop. You've written the wrong number, and no one has modified it. This is indeed on you." Jason stared at Charlotte's face with a sharp gaze, which had some questioning meaning in it. "What can you say about that now?" Charlotte refused to believe it. When she turned on her laptop, she saw the number, which showed 2 billion, and the document creation date, she felt suffocated and powerless. Veronica looked at her complacently. "Are you in cahoots with Silas to trap Langley Group? That's why you're doing this, isn't it? No wonder you claimed to resign from the company!" Charlotte said in a solemn tone, "I'm resigning out of private reasons, and it has nothing to do with this. Moreover, I've never reached out to the Hoyce Group before the cooperation. If you keep slandering me, Ms. Jules, I'll call the police." Veronica was shocked to see Charlotte so aggressive, but then she went on with her arrogance. "Do it then! Your deliberate mistake has caused a huge loss to Langley Group, and we should be calling the police on you! Humph! I'll call them now!" With that, she took out her phone but was stopped by Jason. "That's enough! Shut up! I'll handle this!" Jason felt so annoyed as she shouted that he couldn't think properly. Veronica was startled by his scolding. Displeased, she pouted, but she didn't continue and merely walked to the side while adding her hatred for Charlotte inwardly. Jason looked at Charlotte with a gloomy look. He didn't believe that she would turn against him, but he was annoyed that she was indeed intimate with Silas. Jason suddenly started talking in a business-like manner. "You drew up the electronic version of the contract and printed it yourself. Since no one else saw the contract, who should be responsible now that something's wrong?" "Me." Charlotte had a lump in her throat. "Okay then." Jason spoke to her so indifferently as if they were strangers. "I'm giving you three days to correct your mistake, otherwise, I'll call the police and press financial charges on you." Charlotte felt her lump while holding back her tears. Jason didn't believe her, which aggrieved her, but soon Charlotte calmed herself down. It was not the time to feel sorry about herself, and even if Jason believed her, it wouldn't help. Although Jason was the Langley Group's boss, he didn't get to decide everything about the group since there were many other directors. Therefore, he couldn't spare Charlotte at his will now that it was about a huge financial mistake. Charlotte could only try to deal with it by herself and make up for the loss before others knew it. "Okay. I'll handle it in three days." Charlotte's look was incredibly determined, which gave Jason a second thought about her. Was she so sure because there was something going on between her and Silas that he would modify the contract for her sake? Annoyed and upset, Jason walked back to his office. On the other hand, Veronica was gloating. She walked around Charlotte and said happily, "Three days? Heh, you won't get to handle it even if you have a year to settle it! I'm looking forward to your sentence! Rest assured that I'll go to visit you in prison after I get married to Jason!" In her opinion, it was a sure thing that Charlotte would go to jail. Charlotte looked at her and sneered. "If I were you, I wouldn't be so happy, Ms. Jules. If I fail to make up for my mistake, the Langley Group will fail as well. I'm afraid you'll have a tough time if I have to go to jail, so you'd better start praying that I'll fix this." Her harsh words baffled Veronica, who remained on the spot speechless for a while. She was quite agitated, but she had no way to vent her anger. Charlotte couldn't bother to talk nonsense with her, so she took the contract and her flash drive before she walked past Veronica and left the office. After Charlotte reached the parking lot, she drove the special business car given by Jason and sped to the building of the Hoyce Group. The Hoyce Group had just returned to the country for development not long ago, but because it was a monopoly capital group overseas, the group was wealthy and generous enough to buy a building in the busiest section of the central business district in the city. Even the crystal lamps dangling in the hall of the building were hand-woven by a famous foreign artist. The level of luxury spoke for itself. Charlotte was not in the mood to appreciate the luxurious design at the moment. She walked up to the reception desk and cut to the chase. "I'm Charlotte Seinfield, the special agent of the Langley Group's CEO. I'm here for your CEO to discuss something important. Could you help me pass the message to him?"
