Chapter 7 Won't Be Appropriate

Charlotte's face darkened with anger in her eyes. "Mind your words, Ms. Jules! Mr. Langley is the one who reached the partnership with the Hoyce Group, but you're implying that he made it happen by using some indecent means. What will Mr. Langley think if he finds out about this?" Veronica's face turned pale. She was trying to humiliate Charlotte, but she didn't wish to offend Jason, who had always been indifferent to her. If he found out she had said that he did his business by using some indecent means, she would be doomed. "That's not what I'm saying! Stop misinterpreting me! You were flirting with Mr. Hoyce, and that's on you! We all saw that you were intimate with him!" Silas tidied his gray suit and then gracefully placed his hand on Charlotte's shoulder. He said slowly, "Ms. Seinfield and I are friends at first sight. I took her hand to appreciate the ring she was wearing. How is that indecent?" Charlotte looked up at him, feeling a bit stunned. She didn't stop him from standing up for her. His help was unexpected, but Charlotte was glad that he helped out, which saved her a lot of trouble. "Is that enough for you, Ms. Jules?" "Humph! Whatever!" Veronica knew that she couldn't win on this, so she could only dejectedly get into the crowd. The onlookers scattered since the scene was over. However, one of them stayed, who was Jason. In the beginning, he was busy being interviewed by the reporters, so he didn't notice where Charlotte was going. When he was done with the interview and looked across the crowd, he saw Silas holding her shoulder. Seeing the two of them so close to each other, Jason got furious and wished he could separate them by force. Charlotte didn't see Jason, who was furiously staring at her. She left Silas's arm and thanked him, "Thank you for your help, Mr. Hoyce." She wanted to say that "although you're the one who started this scene", she knew it would be inappropriate and held back the urge to say those words. Then, she tried to leave when Silas suddenly tugged at her arm. He smiled meaningfully and looked at Charlotte with sparkling eyes. Silas leaned over and whispered in her ear, "Is thanking me enough? Actually... I agreed to the partnership with the Langley Group in your honor." Charlotte felt utterly embarrassed. She forced a smile and said, "Please stop it, Mr. Hoyce. I'm not that charming." She wondered, 'Does he think I'm some ignorant girl? Would he make a billion-dollar project in my honor? That's just hilarious.' "I'm telling the truth. It hurts when you don't believe me." Silas's eyes were filled with sorrow. He spread his hands and was interrupted by Jason when he was about to continue. Jason stood between Silas and Charlotte aggressively, pulling her to him when he roared at her, "Do you know who you work for, Charlotte? Stick with me. Get it?" "Got it, Mr. Langley." Charlotte heaved a signed of relief and hurriedly followed Jason. She'd rather deal with Jason's anger than be pestered by Silas, which she found excessively annoying. "I'll see you later then." Silas didn't get mad but waved at Charlotte with a smile instead. The desiring look in his eyes was even a bit terrifying. Charlotte stuck closely with Jason to serve as a competent secretary. Jason was walking fast since he was angry while Charlotte stumbled a bit since she was wearing extra-long stiletto heels. He could see her swaying slender waist out of the corner of his eye. The long hair that hung down to the side of her waist moved along with her waist, which aroused him as he held his breath. Jason stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her with gloom in his eyes. "You're not allowed to wear this again. Do you hear me?" "Yes, Mr. Langley." Charlotte acted like she was complying, but she was rolling her eyes inwardly. She was thinking, 'I'm not allowed to wear this again? As soon as the banquet is over, my work will be done, and I'll apply for my resignation tomorrow! To think that I even felt quite sad about it yesterday. Now I just wish I could leave right away!' When the banquet was over, the guests left. Charlotte stood at the entrance and sent the last guest away with a polite smile. After that, she hurriedly squatted down to rub her ankles when someone appeared in her line of sight. She looked up and saw Silas's eyes staring at her. Charlotte had no choice but to stand up with a fake smile on her face. "I thought you'd already left, Mr. Hoyce." There were smiles in Silas's grayish-green eyes, which made him look even more charming. "I notice that Mr. Langley is sending Ms. Jules home. Since it's getting dark, I'm worried that it won't be safe for you to go home alone." Charlotte looked down. "Thank you for your considerate offer, Mr. Hoyce, but I'll just take a cab home." "Take my ride. You know it's not easy to hail a cab in this area. Moreover... if I were to have ill intentions toward you, I wouldn't have let you off easily that night, so why would you need to be scared?" Silas opened the car door to the front passenger's seat and invited Charlotte to get in. He was so elegant like a prince in the Middle Ages. Since he was not backing down, Charlotte stopped refusing and got into the car. "Fasten your seatbelt. Where should I drop you off?" "At Northville Complex, please." Charlotte told him the address of the apartment Jason had bought her, which she had taken as her home for the past three years. However, the deal between them was over. She would pack her stuff when she went back and then look for a place to stay after she resigned the next day. Along the way, Silas chatted with Charlotte until they reached her place. "Please drop me here, Mr. Hoyce." Silas parked by the roadside and turned to look at her with a meaningful look. "You're even stopping me at the entrance. That's so cautious of you, Charlotte. It hurts me when you're on guard against me." He didn't look sad about it though. Charlotte didn't want to joke with him. She just unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the car door before she said, "You know my relationship with Mr. Langley. It won't be appropriate for me to invite you to my place." With that, she got out of the car as fast as she could and then waved at Silas with a smile. Silas leaned back in his seat comfortably. In the dim light, his face grew even more attractive. "What a lousy excuse. Mr. Langley is sending Ms. Jules home at the moment, so I guess they'll be together alone for a while. He'll probably stay over at her place." Charlotte froze as she recalled the scene where Jason left while holding Veronica's hand. "It's none of my business but Mr. Langley's." Charlotte then walked into her building. The night wind was chilling, which made Charlotte feel so cold that she couldn't help but shiver. Beep! There was suddenly a honk from a car parked by the roadside, which startled Charlotte, who had been lost in thought. Upset, she turned back, only to see Jason's eyes. She was surprised that he was there. Charlotte didn't even notice that he looked furious when she got into his car. "Why are you here?" Charlotte didn't know that there was joy in her tone when she said those words. Jason was obviously furious as he lowered his voice. "Why am I here? Am I interfering between you and Silas?"
