Chapter 18 It's Mine before You Take It Back
There was nothing but silence inside the car.
Jason kept frowning and hadn't replied after a long while.
Charlotte secretly clenched her fists since she was feeling uneasy. Although she had been around Jason for quite some time, she still failed to see through his intentions.
If Jason was determined to make things difficult for her, she wouldn't be able to get out of it.
After two minutes, Jason finally said, "Alright."
Charlotte heaved a sigh of relief and felt much more relaxed. She turned to watch the scenery outside the window, where the city lights were lit, while she was feeling dead inside.
Just as the two got into the apartment, Charlotte was pressed against the door before she could reach the light switch. Then, Jason madly kissed her on the lips.
As Charlotte tried hard to dodge him, she turn the lights on and stuttered as she stopped him, "Hold on, Mr. Langley. I need to take a shower."
It was possible to lose her baby during the first three months of her pregnancy. With Jason's horny look, he would never let go of her easily.
Charlotte had to take her baby as her priority.
Jason didn't have much sanity left in him. He gently kissed her cheeks and neck when he said in a hoarse voice, "We'll shower together."
At the same time, he skillfully unzipped the zipper on Charlotte's dress with a burning touch.
Charlotte barely managed to hold the dress that was going to slip. She reminded with clear eyes, "I just had a drink with Mr. Hoyce, which I'm afraid might displease you, so I need to take a shower, Mr. Langley."
Jason, who was incredibly turned on, regained his senses in an instant.
As Jason suppressed the fury in his eyes, he fixed them on Charlotte's face.
Meanwhile, Charlotte got away and rushed to the bathroom.
When she was done with the shower, Jason had completely calmed down. He was having wine while leaning against the sofa. When he heard the sound of the door opening, he looked over.
His eyes looked especially charming with an intoxicating tipsy look in them at the moment.
When Charlotte looked into his eyes, her heart skipped a beat, and her previous crush for him seemed to have come back to her.
Jason looked at the attractive with wet hair and amorous eyes when his Adam's apple bobbed. He spread his legs and ordered, "Come to me."
Charlotte complied and walked over. As soon as she got closer, Jason reached out and held her in his arms.
"Mr. Langley…"
The sound of the hair dryer sounded, and Charlotte could feel the warm breeze on her hair. Jason gently helped drying her hair as he caressed it.
He had never done this previously. Charlotte was so shocked that she widened her eyes.
When Jason turned off the dryer, he brought her a glass of wine. "Sorry for what happened today."
Charlotte didn't know what he was doing, but taking her pregnancy into consideration, she decided not to drink. "I don't feel like drinking."
Jason, who had been gentle, suddenly got mad. He turned to grab her chin and forced her to look into his eyes. "You don't feel like drinking with me but Silas?"
With that, he didn't give Charlotte the chance to explain and just turned to walk into the bedroom with her in his arms. His kiss stopped her from protesting.
When it was three a.m., everything in the room was in a mess.
Charlotte sat by the bed in a daze. It took her quite a while to slowly get dressed with some difficulty. As she walked, every part of her hurt. She felt like a truck had run over her.
"God damn it. What a bastard."
Charlotte cursed in a low voice and then barely managed to wash up. She turned back to look at Jason, who was asleep, before she took the key and left.
She woke up due to the pain in her belly. For fear that her baby was not doing well, she had to go to the hospital for a checkup when it was in the middle of the night.
Not long after she left, Jason suddenly opened her eyes. He had a complicated look in his eyes when he noticed that Charlotte was gone, wondering, 'I waited for her until she fell asleep. So it turns out that she was faking it.'
To avoid being spotted by her acquaintances, Charlotte went to a rather remote hospital.
After the checkup, Charlotte looked at the sky that was getting bright. She decided to go to the hospital under the Langley Group to visit her mother.
The woman on the hospital bed had become thinner and more emaciated with all kinds of tubes inserted. Her heartbeat was weak.
Standing behind the glass, Charlotte watched Renee in a coma when tears welled up in her eyes. She knew that what she had done had hurt Renee a lot.
Fortunately, she had saved up enough money for Renee's medical fees, and her savings could cover the expenses for a period after she left the Langley Group. She decided to pick up the legal knowledge that she gained when she was a law student and then work at Yvonne's firm as an assistant.
The nurse lamented on the side and couldn't help but comfort her, "Mrs. Seinfield overreacted because she was worried that you suffered. You should talk to her about it when she wakes up. You're her daughter, and she will always forgive you."
Charlotte forced a smile. "I'll have to trouble you to inform me as soon as she wakes up."
"I will, of course."
Jason went to the company with his face darkened early in the next morning. The staff members were all terrified, not daring to say a word. They only talked with their eyes.
When Charlotte entered the Langley Group's building with an exhausted look, she heard the receptionist gossiping, "Not only did Charlotte screw up the contract, but she also got into the police department for fighting with Ms. Jules. How embarrassing. She's leaving soon, so she doesn't need to..."
"I'm sorry. I'm still the chief secretary here. As for you-" Charlotte sized up the receptionist and indifferently mocked, "You'd better cherish your days in the Langley Group."
What she said made all the whispering newcomers shut up.
Charlotte got to decide if the junior staff could stay with her status.
With just a word from her, she could fire them.
When Charlotte arrived at the CEO's office, she noticed that she wasn't the only one there. Veronica was sticking around Jason, doing whatever she could to get his attention.
Pretending that she didn't see it, Charlotte reported Jason's schedule dutifully. "The contract with the Hoyce Group needs to be finalized, Mr. Langley. The ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. There will be a local business banquet the day after tomorrow at 8:00 p.m., and advance preparation is required."
"Okay," Jason replied, emotionless. He signed and then looked up to ask, "Where were you in the early morning?"
It wouldn't be hard for him to check her whereabouts, but he just had to get the answer from her.
However, Charlotte didn't want to tell him about it. "That's about my private business which has nothing to do with you, Mr. Langley."
Veronica knew that they had spent the night together upon hearing those words. She gnashed her teeth hard as she mocked, "How amazing, Ms. Seinfield. You got your mother to stay in the intensive care unit and then slept with my fiance. You've done quite a good job."
Charlotte didn't even bother to look at Veronica. She looked down and said to Jason, "Also, please stop staying at my apartment at night, Mr. Langley."
"I gave you that apartment."
"It's still mine before you take it back."
Veronica was still dealing with their conversation. Charlotte had finished what she wanted to say, so she nodded at Jason politely and then turned around to leave.
However, Jason said unhurriedly, "Veronica will be my wife, and she will help me manage the Langley Group, so she needs to learn about her job. You'll guide her through the company during these days."
He said that Charlotte needed to guide Veronica, but she knew that she would be serving Veronica.
