Chapter 14 Standing Up on Her
"No. I'm not going to the hospital!" Charlotte grabbed his shirt and refused violently.
She couldn't have Jason know that she was pregnant.
Jason thought that she was just trying to make a scene, so he held her in control with a frown. "Stop it!"
"Let go of me!"
Charlotte struggled with a flustered look on her pale face. "Let me go, Jason!"
"Can't I even get close to you now?" Jason's face darkened.
Charlotte gritted her teeth and showed a wry smile. "You know well if we're that close."
"I'm glad you're aware of that." Jason kicked open the office door and then threw her onto the sofa.
Charlotte got uneasy while he stared at her. Seeing that Jason was about to call the doctor, she hurriedly dragged his shirt and whispered, "I'm just feeling unwell because I didn't rest enough last night. There's no need to call the doctor over. I still need to fix the contract now, and I can't hold it off any longer." Jason looked at her condescendingly. "You're so vulnerable. Are you able to please Silas?"
"That's not of your concern." Charlotte was gripping the sofa tightly.
"Whatever. I don't care how you end up with this as long as you can deal with the contract!" After Jason said those indifferent words, he strode out of the office.
Charlotte smiled bitterly, thinking that Jason wouldn't be nice to her for no reason.
He was just worried that if her condition got serious, he would have no one take the blame for the contract.
It wasn't until Jason was gone that Janice walked into the office secretly. "Are you sure you don't need to see the doctor, Charlotte?" Charlotte felt quite touched. "I'm fine, Janice. Please get me some water and my backpack. I'll be okay after I take my meds."
Janice still felt worried and kept checking on her. After she made sure that Charlotte seemed to be doing okay, she hurriedly went to get the water and the medicine.
Leaning into the sofa, Charlotte calmed down her breathing while covering her belly.
It seemed to hurt less as she had become much calmer.
"Here are your pills, Charlotte!"
Janice soon returned and handed over the water and the meds.
Charlotte took them and finally felt much better after she rested for a long while.
"Are you sure you're fine?" Janice was still worried.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'll get back to work now." Charlotte stood up and returned to her workplace.
She needed to deal with the contract as soon as possible. Charlotte used her connections to get to know some of Silas's hobbies. She planned to work on that.
Just as Charlotte was about to contact Silas, Janice hurriedly rushed over.
"I'm in trouble, Janice! Please help me!"
Charlotte frowned. "You can't be so irritable while working at the secretary department, Janice. You need to be calm and composed."
Janice calmed down. "Got it, Janice. Sorry."
Charlotte stood up and was quite concerned. "What happened?"
She knew Janice well, who was irritable and a bit timid but capable. If it weren't for something tricky, she wouldn't have come to ask Charlotte for help.
Janice led Charlotte to her laptop and said uneasily, "I don't know what's going on with my file. The data has gone wrong... This has never happened before. I don't know how to deal with it."
Charlotte carefully checked her file and soon figured out what was wrong. "I'll help handle it. However, did someone mess with your laptop?"
"That can't be. I've just changed the password. I got more alert after the incident that day, so I guess I didn't have anyone mess with my laptop, which would be quite a stupid mistake."
At that point, Janice realized that she had said something she shouldn't mention. She immediately covered her mouth. "Sorry, Charlotte. I didn't mean to rub salt into your wounds."
Charlotte didn't care about that. She checked Janice's laptop carefully.
It seemed that no one had messed with it, but it might have been attacked, which meant that there were hackers.
No wonder Charlotte failed to get proof back then.
Charlotte soon organized Janice's file with clear thinking and meticulous logic. Her modified file was even better than the original one.
"Wow! That's amazing, Charlotte!" Janice's eyes lit up.
"You should copy the important files and keep them in a flash drive. It's always good to be alert. You got lucky to spot it early, but you don't always get so lucky," Charlotte reminded her.
Janice looked at her with admiration in her eyes.
"You're just wonderful, Charlotte. What am I going to do without you here?"
"I've taught you all the working skills you need. You'll have to be independent sooner or later." Charlotte patted her shoulder and got up to leave.
They didn't notice that Jason saw everything in a corner behind them.
"Mr. Langley." Jason's assistant Shawn Leslie, who was at the same working level as Charlotte, was standing behind Jason. He felt flustered for some reason.
"What's Silas doing recently?" Jason's voice was gloomy.
Shawn shook her head. "The Hoyce Group is doing the same as before. However, Ms. Jules keeps making a scene. Her parents have some comments on your cancellation of the cooperation."
Jason sneered. He got in with the Jules family back then due to his grateful feelings for them.
He found it unbelievable that Veronica would dare to try to call the shots in his company, which had gone against his rules, and he would never tolerate it.
"Let them comment then." With that, Jason looked over at Charlotte. "Keep an eye on her. Tell me whenever she gets close to Silas."
"Yes, Mr. Langley." Shawn nodded. He looked like a business elite when he supported his golden-rimmed glasses.
Charlotte spent quite some effort to manage to ask Silas out for a meeting. After work, she went to buy a gift for him to show her sincerity.
Although her chance was slim, she would still do her best to strive for it.
Charlotte got to the restaurant early and ordered some fine dishes. She got everything prepared, and she just needed to wait for Silas.
To make sure that the negotiation could go smoothly, Charlotte repeatedly studied the contract.
Time passed by. When she looked up, she found that it was already 7 p.m. She had asked Silas to meet her by then.
However, he had yet to arrive.
Charlotte kept waiting with patience, but he still hadn't come over.
The waiter walked over with a smile and asked tentatively, "May I serve your dishes now, miss?"
"Maybe a while later."
The clock was ticking. The customers around had left, but Silas still hadn't arrived.
Charlotte messaged him, and he didn't reply.
Her heart sank. She was distressed that he stood her up.
The waiter walked over and asked cautiously again, "May I serve your dishes now, miss?"
Charlotte was about to answer when she heard a low voice.
"Yes. Thank you!"
"Mr. Langley?" Charlotte was shocked to see that it was Jason. "What are you doing here?"
Jason snorted. "Shouldn't I be here? Who should be dining with you then? Silas?"
