Chapter 6

LOGAN “Let go of me!!” I kept pressing forward while Amy kept hitting my back. She might've hated me for my actions but I was doing it for our own good. As werewolves, it was our utmost priority to keep our identities a secret from humans, but with what happened here today, questions were bound to be raised; questions I wouldn’t want to be involved in. I looked around and the strong smell of blood coupled with screams and tears filled the air. I gulped down my saliva; the scenery was too similar to the time I had lost my father. “Let go of me, please,” Amy muttered, but this time her voice lacked energy. “Le—let me—“ “Hey,” I quickly changed her position, carrying her in my arms so I could get a better look. Her bleeding wasn’t stopping and the life in those gray eyes was fading at a dangerous pace. “Amy, stay with me, okay?” Her lips twitched while her eyes closed for a moment. “Amy!” I quivered in fear as my legs froze. I was about to drop her when Oliver yelled my name up front. His clothes were ripped and blood coated like mine as he ran towards me. “Thank goodness you’re safe!” he panted. “Where’s David?! She needs treatment as soon as possible!” I barked anxiously. “He’s coming. Who’s she?” he asked with a frown imprinted on his face. “Hey, Amy! Wake up!” I yelled, noticing her eyes closing and her breaths receding. “Logan—“ “Where the fuck is David?!” I yelled whilst setting my mate carefully on the grass. I lifted her hoodie and my breaths hung in my throat seeing the extent of the claw marks. “Shit! She’s injured badly!” Oliver gasped. My hands began to tremble as I felt her weakening pulse. There was no sign of an ambulance around and I knew what was going to happen if this continued. “She’s a werewolf, why is she not healing up?” he asked, but that was the least of my worries. I looked around to see everyone tending to their own wounds. My fangs extended as I bit my right palm deep. “Amy.” I tapped her cheek gently. “Drink.” I gently pressed my palm against her lips while she weakly drew from the oozing blood. Not on my watch would my mate die after just meeting her. My blood had the special effect of healing mild injuries. I grunted as she sucked more until my cut healed up. “You’ll be fine,” I assured her before she fell unconscious. I checked her pulse again; it was still weak but at least she wasn’t losing life. “Logan,” Oliver called in a worried tone while I sighted a black Range Rover approaching us. “Who is she?” I heaved a deep sigh while my gaze reverted to her innocent face. “She’s my mate.” He went mute as the SUV parked in front of us. “Alpha Logan!” David blared as he alighted. I briskly carried her while Oliver opened the back door. At the same time, the blare of police sirens and the ambulance was beginning to rock the air. “I’ll drive. There’s a friend of mine residing at the town’s outskirts—we can get Amy treated properly there,” Oliver said. “How long before we get there?” I queried. “About ten minutes,” he answered and I jumped in while David joined him at the front. All through the drive, I kept my gaze on her injury as it was slowly closing up. My heart wouldn’t stop thumping in fear till we arrived at a small cabin house surrounded by trees. “Silvia!” Oliver blared as he knocked on her door impatiently. After a moment, the door creaked open for a medium height, red haired woman in round glasses. I frowned. Not because she was human but because she used to be one of Oliver’s flings back then. One of the few lucky humans who knew about our existence. “Oliver, Alpha Logan,” she mumbled in awe. “We need your help,” Oliver muttered, pointing at Amy in my arms. She briskly ushered us in. “What happened?” she asked while she directed me to one of the rooms. It was small but the bed would make do for whatever needed to be done. “Rogues attacked the town,” Oliver explained while I set Amy on the small bed. “I thought they only attacked packs,” Silvia mumbled while she opened the curtains above the bed. “She’s badly injured, I gave her my blood but I doubt it can heal her completely,” I explained as I sat beside Amy. “I’ll do my best, Alpha,” she asserted and I nodded before she turned to the wardrobe poised at the side of the wall, pulling out her kits. “I’ll need you two to leave.” She glanced at both of us. “I’m going to have to undress her and—“ “She’s my mate!” I blurted out. “I’m staying.” Oliver cleared his throat, giving me a knowing look. “I understand but…” Her voice trailed off I glanced at Amy, gently stroking her hand before easing out alongside Oliver. I headed outside, trying to calm my heavy breaths but it wasn’t working. For the first time in so long, I was losing grip of my emotions. “Where are the others?” I asked while rubbing the area between my eyebrows. “Some of them injured and some…” he started and I felt a new wave of anger sprout in me. “What really happened, Oliver?” I glanced at him and he stared at the SUV parked in front of us as if he was reliving the whole scene. “The other guards and I tried to capture them but then they started attacking the civilians to distract us. We managed to kill some of them but a few escaped,” he explained and then sighed. “It’s all my fault. If we were coordinated enough perhaps—“ “Don’t blame yourself.” “This is the second time they’ve slipped out of our hands Logan.” My palms curled into fists. “There won’t be a third. When I find them, they’ll beg for death and I won’t give them that luxury,” I vowed. Silence held between us for a long while. “Amy’s going to be fine,” he mumbled and I sighed. “One of the rogues chased her into the woods. If I had been seconds later...“ My voice trailed off as I glanced at him again. “It was there I found out she was my mate.” He smiled. “Congratulations, Logan. After so many years, your curse can finally be broken.” I smiled too. “The pack would be delighted to have her as our Luna,” Oliver chirped. “She’s a weak werewolf, Oliver. I’m the Alpha King, it would be a stain on my image to have someone as weak as that to rule by my side.” He frowned. “She’s your mate, Logan! You should be grateful!” “I am! It’s just—“ “It’s just what?” I glanced at the cabin. “Something about her terrifies me.”
