Chapter 5: Finding a fated mate

"Come dear, We are going to have so much fun in my cell" madame Gertrude said, taking me by the hand when almost everyone had left. "Okay ma'am" I said as I tagged along. The cars seemed to have packed a considerable distance from the alpha's home and we would be walking the rest of the journey. "Oh dear, you can call me mother if madame Gertrude is too long. I'm the one who keep the boys in check around here" she beamed confidently. "Alright madame Gertrude" I said with a smile. I had only known her for a few minutes and she had shown me more warmth than I have had my whole life. "Or mother, Karl calls me that when no one is around" she smiled sheepishly "Don't tell him I told you though. Boys and his pride "Just him?" I asked as I tried to hold back a chuckle. I had a feeling I would enjoy spending a night with this woman, even though it would be for tonight. "Oh and Sky does too" her smile seemed to increase when Sky was in question. If I did not know better, I would think that this was the alpha's mother. "Sky Claw,our alpha" I spoke the words as if trying to remind myself rather than telling her. It felt so strange to me, even till now while I walked with madame Gertrude towards the alpha's home. Just a couple of minutes ago, I did not know anyone of importance except for my family and no one knew me. But now I was walking to the mansion of the alpha himself. "Yes dear. You really don't know much about him, do you?" Madame Gertrude with the kindest eyes, I just had to tell her the truth. "No I don't" I sighed out. She might think I was from another pack or even start doubting whether I was telling the truth but I was not in the mood to explain further to her. It's okay dear. Everything would be fine soon" she said with her motherly smile again "And look! We are already here" I looked up and what I saw almost knocked me breathless. Locked in my foster parent's home, I knew little about the Diamond Moon pack, about the nobles and their wealth but I was say was just too much! "Impressive right?" madame Gertrude had her arm on my shoulder now and it was the only thing keeping me from falling over. "Yes yes" I nodded, trying to force my mouth to close. The sight in front of me was truly magnificent especially when illuminated by the full moon's glow like it was tonight "Well it is better inside" she smiled. I could tell that she was in a hurry to go in but waited for me to take it all in. "Yes. Let's go" I said after I had regained some measure of control. Just as we took a step in, a guard came in front of us and bowed slightly to Madame Gertrude. "Yes dear, how can I help you? Injured foot?" she asked in her usual sweet tone but she was no longer smiling. That alone got me tense "The grand elder has instructed that I escort Lady Gertrude and her guest for the night" he said slowly, his eyes averting mine and the woman's beside me. "Oh Dane is so kind" the smile returned instantly and I was at ease again. It seemed that the woman knew how to handle boys and elders alike "Tell him I don't need it" "But I was given strict orders…" "Would you like my darling Sky to tell you that himself?" Madame Gertrude cut in, her tone still as soft as ever "I am sure he would not mind taking time to explain something so simple" "No miss… ma'am… Lady Gertrude" the guard fumbled with words as his hands and knees began to tremble before us. It was both funny and scary. How much did they fear the alpha? "So would you leave now?" madame Gertrude asked, clearly pleased with the guard's reaction "Yes" and with that, we were alone at the entrance again. Madame Gertrude just sighed and shook her head. I held her hand then. "It's getting too late" madame Gertrude complained and we both entered instantly. My eyes immediately flew open and I was sure my mouth did too. "I told you it was better didn't I?" madame Gertrude's smile had turned to a smirk and I could not help but flush ib embarrassment. I was openly admiring the billionaire mansion without any courtesy. Yes, you were right" I whispered as my eyes traveled to different furniture,carvings, other devices that I did not even know and doors that led to other rooms as wonderful as this one. "Come let me take you to my room" with that we walked through a couple doors, up a flight of stares and a couple more doors with me taking a few seconds to stare. "It's beautiful" I said when we entered the last room and she slumped on a couch "Where do I sleep?" "Oh dear" Lady Gertrude said, shaking her head "This is just a waiting room where we greet guests. I have other bedrooms just inside, you can pick one" "Really?" I asked all excited. I was already okay with sleeping here as it was way better than the room I got in my foster parent's home. "Yes, you can go and check them out if you like" madame Gertrude affirmed still slumped on the couch. Only then did I notice that she was exhausted too. "Are you alright madame Gertrude?" I asked, going to crouch beside her. "Oh me? I am fine. Nothing a shower and a good night's sleep won't fix" she said and her motherly smile was back "You should shower too. "I will" I smiled back and stood up to check out the rooms while Madame Gertrude just sat there on the couch. I remembered the alpha saying that I was her responsibility. Why was she not following me? Did she trust me that much? "What is wrong my dear?" Madame Gertrude asked as she turned to look at me . Her eyes filled with genuine concern. "Nothing it's just…" teardrops began to from my eyes again and I giggled at the sensation of happy tears "Thank you so much for everything" "You are welcome" she smiled at me and I went straight to hug her. She returned my embrace immediately, taking me in a warm hug. "Now go and check out your rooms" "Yes" I replied and so I went off, inspecting each wonder one after the other, each of them so Big and beautiful. I finally walked towards a room that was hidden from the rest. I knew I should not go in but something kept pulling me towards the direction. I opened it and immediately realized that it obviously did not belong to Madame Gertrude. I turned to leave but… "You are the same girl" Sky's voice froze me, his hands pulled me close, and then he sniffed "from the roof, the veiled girl" he continued to sniff my scent as I took in his. And then we kissed.
