I'm So Glad You're Alive
Elizabeth Liang stood outside the door. "Is anyone there?"
No answer.
"I'm going in."
It was only her first day here, but she couldn't help but worry about the loud noise.
They say that curiosity killed the cat, but after thinking about it, she still decided to open the door.
The light inside was very dim, she could only vaguely see a staircase leading down. There was a faint glow at the bottom of the stairs.
Elizabeth slowly descended the stairs one step at a time. Halfway down, she became certain that this was a wine cellar. The deeper she went, the stronger the wine smell was.
"Mr. Lu?"
The moment Elizabeth reached the wine cellar, she saw James Lu leaning and sitting on a wine cabinet. He held a bottle of wine in one hand and was surrounded by broken pieces of wine bottles, while he laid his other hand on the shattered fragments.
It was apparent that the noise just now was him knocking over the bottles.
She took a few steps and stood in front of him, only to realize that his hand had been injured by the debris and was still bleeding. But he wasn't even frowning, as if he couldn't feel pain.
"Are you okay?" Elizabeth squatted down, and the strong smell of alcohol made her face scrunch up.
How much did he drink?
She moved his hands away. Worried that James would put them on the broken pieces again, she kicked the debris aside with her feet.
James looked at Elizabeth, a dazed expression on his clean-cut and handsome face.
"Wait a minute, I'll find something to deal with your wound."
Leaving this, Elizabeth ran out to head straight towards her room.
When she was in the hospital today for her forehead wound, the doctor gave her some gauze and iodine to change her bandages with. She took her stuff and ran back to the wine cellar.
"I'll just do a quick fix." Elizabeth put James's hands on her knees.
James stared at the little woman in front of him. His injured hand grabbed her wrist and pulled her to his chest with a light tug.
"Clang, clang, clang---"
Throwing a bottle to the ground, James clenched her chin and kissed her lips passionately.
"Oh.."
The sudden kiss made Elizabeth widen her eyes.
He wasn't kissing her, as much as biting her.
The inside of his mouth tasted like strong alcohol, his burning lips took over hers.
"Mr..."
James's madness made her panic. Elizabeth desperately shook her head, but couldn't break free from his control.
They were drunk yesterday, but she was sober now. She didn't want to repeat yesterday's mistake.
Her fist hit his shoulder, but he didn't even frown.
In a panic, her flailing hand touched a wine bottle on the wine cabinet.
Elizabeth couldn't afford to think it through in the moment. She picked up the bottle and smashed it on his head.
"Bang—"
"Ugh..." He finally let go of her, a trace of surprise and incredulity in his blurred eyes. "You..."
"You started it, don't blame me!" She hurriedly got up and backed away, her chest rose and fell violently from the panic.
"... Come here."
Her head shook like a rattle drum. "No!"
Go over so he could take his revenge? No way!
"Hold me..."
Before he could finish, he fell helplessly to the ground.
"Hey..." Elizabeth was stunned. What's wrong with him?
"James Lu? Stop pretending! I won't fall for that!"
"..." The man on the ground did not make a sound.
Did he really pass out?
Elizabeth gathered the courage to walk over and gently kick him with the tip of her foot, but he laid still.
"Hey..." When she got closer, she saw something vividly red on the spot where she hit him, intensely conspicuous under the dim yellow light.
Now she was really anxious and terrified. She didn't even consider how hard she had hit him...
It felt, pretty hard...
Could he have...
Elizabeth's heart was in her mouth and she dared not breathe. She reached her trembling hand out to the tip of his nose, and felt a weak breath. Elizabeth felt as if an insurmountable weight was lifted off of her shoulders.
That was a thrilling few moments for her heart. Seeing that he had only fainted, she finally began crying and laughing as she hugged him. "I'm so glad! I'm so glad you're alive!"
