CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY SIX: MISTAKE

With a resigned sigh, Adrian pushed himself to his feet and made his way to the front door, his head throbbing with each step. He swung the door open, expecting to find a delivery person or perhaps a well-meaning neighbor, but what he saw instead took him completely by surprise. ”Jessica?” Adrian’s voice was hoarse with disbelief as he took in the sight of his fiancée standing on his doorstep, her eyes wide with concern. “What are you doing here?” Jessica took a step forward, her expression one of worry mixed with determination. “Adrian, I’ve been trying to reach you all day,” she said, her voice tinged with urgency. “I was worried about you. Are you okay?” Adrian winced as another wave of pain washed over him, his migraine intensifying with each passing moment. “I’m fine,” he snapped, his patience wearing thin. “Just go home, Jessica. I don’t need this right now.” But Jessica refused to be deterred, her concern for Adrian outweighing her own discomfort. “No, Adrian, you’re no
