When I did not reply, Wynnie sat up slowly.
She glanced at me as she started the car. Wynnie asked, "What are you thinking about?"
I looked down to hide the disappointment and agony in my eyes as I replied, "Nothing much. I'm just tired."
Silence hung between us throughout the journey home.
The car came to a stop below my apartment. I was about to get off when Wynnie locked all the doors.
I looked at Wynnie in confusion and asked, "Is there anything else you need from me, Ms. Jakeman?"
She unfastened her seat belt before climbing onto the passenger's seat and sitting in my lap. Pressed against my chest, she said, "Sebastian, I'm hungry."
Whenever she spoke in such a sugary tone, I'd think that she had confused the present with the past.
It was as though she still thought she was back in the days when we were in love.
I tried to make myself look as calm and unbothered as possible as I replied, "If you're hungry, I'm afraid there are many people fighting for the chance
