Chapter 4 Desperate to Get Another Sugar Daddy
Because of the accident, Charlotte successfully got her leave.
She went home and changed her outfit before she made an appointment with her gynecologist.
When the doctor saw her, Charlotte lowered her voice and said, "I need to have an abortion. Can I take the surgery today?"
"Abortion?"
The doctor was quite shocked. He frowned and said, "Ms. Seinfield, I need to remind you that because you've been taking birth control pills for a long time, it has caused a serious adverse reaction to the uterus. Also, the accident has caused the uterine wall to contract. If you have to have an abortion, you will probably never be able to get pregnant again."
Charlotte's face changed drastically.
"How-how could that be?"
She grabbed the doctor's arm and asked anxiously, "I've never had an abortion, and I take great care of my health. Why…"
"Long-term medication can cause the body's hormone levels to become imbalanced, inhibiting the growth of the uterine lining."
The doctor sighed. "Perhaps you should reconsider your choice. After all, the accident has had quite a significant impact on the fetus. Even if you decide not to abort it, you might fail to keep it. I'll prescribe some medicines to help keep your baby."
Charlotte walked out of the hospital as her mind went blank.
What the doctor said kept ringing in her ear. She subconsciously stroked her belly and couldn't help but wonder if Jason found out about the baby, would he allow her to keep it?
That idea merely popped up for a second before she let go of it.
Overwhelmed, Charlotte tried hard to calm herself down. She took a rest and then headed to her mother's ward.
The nurses had finished the routine checkup. As Charlotte stroked her mother's thin wrist that was filled with pinholes, she felt terribly distressed.
Ever since Renee was hospitalized, she had become ill-looking and emaciated. She was merely a bit over 40 years old, but all her hair had turned gray.
Renee held Charlotte's hand with a smile and comforted her softly, "I'm fine. I'm feeling much better recently. Look at you. You haven't slept well these days, have you? Your dark circles are so obvious."
She sighed and continued, "Perhaps I should get discharged now. The doctors said my condition has stabilized..."
"You don't need to do that, Mom. Don't worry about the medical fees."
Charlotte hurriedly interrupted her mother. She smiled and said, "Didn't I tell you? My company pays me well, and we've got health insurance. We can get reimbursement for the medical fees."
Actually, with Renee's disease, she would only be cured by some imported medicines, which health insurance didn't cover, but in order to let her mother feel at ease with the treatment, Charlotte had never said anything about it. She also deliberately instructed the doctors and nurses not to mention it.
Charlotte chatted with Renee for a while. Since she hadn't slept well since the previous night, she felt sleepy and dazed at the moment. It wasn't until Renee nudged her a bit that she came back to her senses.
"Take the bed."
Charlotte took off her outfit and lay down on the bed on the side. She felt asleep as soon as she closed her eyes and didn't wake up until her phone rang.
Charlotte had set a special ringtone for Jason. She unlocked her phone and found that she had merely slept for two hours.
Rubbing her eyes, Charlotte picked up her phone when she heard Jason's indifferent and low voice. "We have an important banquet to attend to. It's about business cooperation with the Hoyce Group. Go to Tinston Hotel tonight, and get yourself prepared."
Since Charlotte was running out of time, she couldn't take another nap. She hurriedly excused herself from Renee before she washed up to sober herself in the hospital's washroom. Then, she rushed back home.
Charlotte changed her clothes and wore makeup to cover her dark circles. When she got to the hotel, she found that Jason was already waiting there.
Seeing her walk over, Jason said indifferently, "You're late."
Charlotte apologized in a soft voice, "Sorry, Mr. Langley."
Jason didn't hold her accountable but just turned around and walked into the hotel. Charlotte hurriedly followed behind.
There were quite many people in the private room. When Jason pushed the door open, someone immediately got up and greeted him.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Langley. We've long heard about your reputation. It's our great honor to have the chance to cooperate with the Langley Group."
The man's voice was so elegant that it sounded like a song played by a cello.
Charlotte looked over. She didn't expect the man to be staring at her with his grayish-green eyes, which made her heart skip a beat.
The man's eyes were charming, and his facial features were so gorgeous that they were unforgettable. With a faint smile on his face, he stared at Charlotte without any scruples, which made her feel like the prey targeted by a snake.
Charlotte had heard of the Hoyce Group's reputation, which was no smaller than the Langley Group. Hoyce Group focused its business overseas, and its current person in charge, Silas Hoyce, was a half-breed, who had been trying to expand the group's domestic business.
It seemed that getting in with the Langley Group was a part of his plan.
Silas asked with a smile, "Who's this young lady?"
Jason said indifferently, "She's just my secretary. Are you interested in her, Mr. Hoyce?"
"I just feel that she looks somewhat familiar..."
Silas kept his eyes fixed on Charlotte's face as he sized her up with interest. "Do you bear to let others have her, Mr. Langley?"
Charlotte abruptly looked at Jason while clenching her fists.
She was no longer some innocent little girl, so of course, she knew what Silas meant.
However, she still kept some faint hope in her heart, hoping that even if Jason didn't have any actual feelings for her, he wouldn't be cruel to her.
Jason's indifferent tone shattered her hope. "If you like her, you can just have her accompany you, Mr. Hoyce."
Disbelief appeared in Charlotte's eyes as she called out in a hoarse voice, "Mr. Langley..."
Jason glanced at her with a poker face. He didn't say anything, but it was obvious that to him, she was just some disposable plaything.
Charlotte felt utterly desperate.
She sat down next to Silas, who stared at her with an interested look and suddenly asked, "Your name is Charlotte, right?"
Charlotte looked down and answered, "Yes."
Silas chuckled. "That's a lovely name."
As soon as he finished speaking, he handed her a glass of wine.
Charlotte was stunned.
Silas raised an eyebrow. "You can't drink?"
"I can."
Gritting her teeth, Charlotte took the wine and gulped it down.
When she first met Jason, she couldn't drink. Even a sip would make her cough nonstop, but later, he got her used to drinking.
Charlotte took the wine bottle and filled her glass when she showed a faint smile. "Since you're offering me to drink with you, I'd surely love to be your guest, Mr. Hoyce."
Jason's eyes darkened when he saw this scene.
He had agreed to let Silas have her, but he hated it when he saw that Charlotte was handling it well while she was forced.
As long as she begged him, Jason would protect her.
He wondered if she was that desperate to get another sugar daddy.
