498: ON THE RUN
LUKE'S POV
As I was getting up slowly, the man knocked me on the head with only God knows what, and I lost consciousness. And just like that, the world faded to black. The last vestiges of consciousness slipped away, and I felt myself falling into the abyss. My body was numb, and my mind was void of nothingness.
Hours could have passed. Maybe days. Time lost all meaning in that inky blackness as I drifted through a dreamless sleep. And when I finally awoke, it was to the sound of voices, distorted and distant, like echoes in a cave.
But we weren't in a cave. The world came into focus, like a blurry image slowly sharpening. The air was frigid, and the sky an inky expanse of stars and moonlight. The flickering fire cast a warm, golden glow across the landscape, creating a stark contrast to the shadows that lurked beyond its reach.
