MICHAEL’S POV
Amber liquid that burned my throat and hardly anymore, the sting had long become numbness sullenly perched in that deep bone recess. My office was cluttered with whiskey bottles, smelling, stale air like a cover to that stench, even to hell if I cared.
I slumped back in my chair, my eyes glazed as I stared blankly at my desk, the empty crystal bottles sprawled all over the mahogany surface, each one drained to the very last drop-but all in vain attempt at forgetting.
Forgetting wasn't an option.
Because she was gone.
Miss K.
Kimberly took her from me.
I snorted, the very sound bitter upon my own ears.
She left without looking over her shoulder. Without a thought.
And me?
Now I was nothing.
I might have leaned my head back against the back of my chair and let my eyes slip shut. Since that notice had come up on my phone today, my stomach seemed to twist into one big tight knot.
Blocked.
