Chapter Seventeen: An Unanticipated Dilemma
They arrived at the hospital and walked through the mirrored sliding glass doors at the entrance, into the lobby.
Akila led Layla toward the elevator, exchanging greetings with her acquaintances.
"You seem to be popular around here?"
"This is where I work, and I'm a social butterfly."
Layla agreed. "That's obvious."
Akila smiled at another lady with a lab coat draped over her dress, waving at her.
The older lady returned the gesture, dipping her hands back into her front pockets, and continued going on her way.
Layla watched the woman leave, and she leaned closer to Akila. "Is she a werewolf too?" The woman didn't look like one, but there were often foreigners with latent werewolf traits that couldn't be easily discerned due to years of living among humans.
Those traits were only noticeable by werewolf and other supernaturals. But to humans, they were just regular people like they were.
They got on the elevator and began to ascend above the floors.
