Chapter 8: Bitter reunion

"Diana. So that is her name son?" madame Gertrude asked Sky. My heart began to beat so loud, I was scared that both of them would hear. "You did not ask her of her name? Her identity?" Sky's surprised tone came of and it made me wonder why madame Gertrude never asked too. "No I did not need to. Besides she would tell me once she is ready" madame Gertrude just brushed the matter off easily. "So you did not ask her anything last night?" Sky said, still shocked at how carefree the healer was being with me. "Don't change the subject Sky. How do you know her name?" madame Gertrude inquired, not as an healer to her alpha but as a mother to a child. "I don't know her name mother" Sky shrugged, not clearly used to someone having the higher power over him. "But you just called her Diana" madame Gertrude pressured. My heart beat with every second. What would happen now that Sky knew I was Diana. "I overheard someone calling her that at the Grover's party but I still do not know if she was the one" Sky confessed. "You met her at the party?" madame Gertrude suddenly sounded very interesting in hearing the story of how I and Sky met "Yes" Sky said. He really knew me even though my disguise was nothing like the simple modest clothes I wore back at my foster parent's home. "Oh so something interesting actually happened at the Grover's besides them showing off their gem of a daughter to the whole pack" madame Gertrude remarked. "Yes" Sky's voice grew cold as if he did not want to talk about the party. I remembered him hiding out on the roof just to avoid the crowd. "That means the Grover's might know something about the child" madame Gertrude said and I almost began to cry again. "I know" Sky confirmed and the pain in my chest increased. My nightmares flashed before my eyes as I saw my stepmother stretching her hands to take me back. "Then you should contact them. Tell them to join the Council meeting" I almost screamed as soon as madame Gertrude said the words. "I have done that already" Sky said and I almost could not breathe. I really wanted to scream all the pain out but I kept silent. "Good. Both Dane and his son would finally hear the truth about their suspected spy" madame Gertrude said simply. "And then we can move on to other issues" Sky said. I got the feeling that he was in a hurry to get rid of me. "Yes and if you knew where she was from, why didn't you say anything sooner?" madame Gertrude asked. "Back then I… "Why did you let Kane treat her like that?" madame Gertrude cut in, still accusing him brazenly. "I did not know back then" Sky admitted. I also did not know that I was going to accidentally enter the car of the guest at the roof who turned out to be the alpha. "So when did you find out?" madame Gertrude persuaded and my cheeks flushed just remembering when I had entered the room, how Sky kissed me. "Mother I…" Sky was clearly flustered as well perhaps he was thinking of the same kiss, heen one in that single moment of bliss, "You were in the room when she came, weren't you?" madame Gertrude asked, her tone hinting a sly grin. "I have to go now mother" Sky's voice trembled. He had really lost all his wits as the alpha of the Diamond Moon pack. "Sky?" madame Gertrude laughed as Sky went out of the room. She continued laughing and it made my cheeks even redder. We had been caught. *** "I asked for these clothes to be brought for you" madame Gertrude said as soon as I had come out of the showers. I looked and felt refreshed. "Thank you madame Gertrude" I said, slightly bowing like I have seen many do. It felt good to bow to her like a true lady. "You can always call me mother though" she said, smiling from her eyes again "Hope you know that Dia–" "Yes I do" I cut in immediately before distracting myself with the array of clothes on the table. They all looked very beautiful. "Get dressed so you can have breakfast. I promise you will enjoy it" madame Gertrude said as I finally made my choice on what to wear. A beautiful red dress. "Okay" I said while my stomach inwardly churned. All I had for dinner was a loaf of bread and a glass of water and now I was very hungry. "That room you entered yesterday used to belong to Sky's mother" madame Gertrude said pointing to the direction of the roomI i and Sky kissed. "Oh" I said, trying desperately not to remember what happened last night in the room. I had given it too much thought already. "I know it looks like no one has stayed there in a while but Sky visits there everyday" madame Gertrude continued meaningfully rolling her eyes at me. "Okay" I tried to ignore whatever it is the other woman was doing, even tried to deny the fact that I was tempted to go there again tonight. "And sometimes he goes there shirtless. I always warn him against the cold but he never listens to me" she was clearly having fun playing with me like this. "Well I should get dressed now" I snatched the red dress from the bed and quickly turned away from her before going to aome other private room. "Just telling you so you don't go entering while he is undressed" madame Gertrude yelled after me. She was already laughing at this point while my face was covered in colour "I won't madame Gertrude" I yelled back before I tried to concentrate on the dress I picked yet all my thoughts went to how Sky had grabbed me and pulled me closer to himself. "Yes don't because Sky usually does not like people intruding on him but I don't know how he would react to you though" madame Gertrude continued talking while I gave up on her. *** "Breakfast is served" madame Gertrude announced while I went to join her in the table set in one of her rooms. "All these?" I asked as I stared at the tray that contained all sorts of delicacies. My stomach churned grumbled louder this time and I hid yet another blush. "Well yes. You need it. You are way too thin child" madame said in her usual motherly tone before pointing to a chair beside her which I took. "Thank… "Don't you dare say it" she cut in just before she dug in to her food with a grace that I did not possess "Now eat we are already getting late" "Late for what?" I asked, looking puzzled. After falling asleep in a very comfortable bed and waking up to a warm bath, I had forgotten all about my ordeals. "The Council meeting. You are expected there in a few minutes. So hurry up!" madame Gertrude said as she continued eating. Then I remembered that my foster family was invited too. What a reunion it would be.
