Chapter 2: The Confrontation

"I know" he replied casually, like this did not mean as much to him as it did to me. Or maybe I was overthinking it. And he confessed that he knew, maybe just maybe… "You know. Does that mean you have been having the same dreams too?" I asked. Suddenly my body forgot that he it had been at work all day, suddenly I was wide awake "Dreams? What dreams?" the man on the roof looked puzzled and I began to doubt whether this man was the same I met in the woods in my dream. "The dreams I have. The dreams I had just minutes ago" I pressured him. I knew nothing about the stranger in my dreams other than he had an imposing height and build and he had the deepest piercing blue eyes. Same with this man. "Sorry. I did not have a dream a few minutes ago" his voice was calm, cold even. Even though they looked alike in almost every way, the stranger in my dreams was a totally different person. "I know. I mean…" I tried looking for the right words but I could not find any. It was becoming so frustrating "You know what? Just forget it" "Wait a minute" for the first time, I could see real emotion in the eyes of this man on the roof with me. It was genuine surprise. "I said you should forget about it. I also wanted some peace so I will not yell. Let's just stay here for as long as I can have it" I poured out my heart to him. "You were not lying about your dreams?" You mean you did not say those things just because of who I am?" his surprise increased but I only wanted to rest now. "Yes why will I lie about having a dream about you some minutes ago?" I asked "And I don't even know who you are or what that even means. "Are you really telling the truth?" his curiosity was at a skyhigh but it only enraged me. Who was he to come here and ask if I was lying to him? Why would I lie to someone I don't even know. "Diana" just before I could give him a piece of my mind, i heard the voice of my stepmother again and I knew she was getting close. "I have to go" I said to no one because the man on the roof seemed to have vanished to. That was so strange but I knew this was not another dream. "Diana you lazy brat!" my stepmother continued to yell and I knew that I was in big trouble this time. And I did not even get any time to rest on the roof, not with that stranger asking my dumb questions. "I am here mother" I presented myself before her hoping that she was not in too much pf a bad mood. The alpha came and she must have seen her so that would help. "Where were you?" she growled angrily and just then I realized that she always had some hatred saved up for me no matter the situation. "I was at the…" I paused not sure of whether to tell her of the stranger on the roof. He was probably another party guest and was given permission to be there. "I don't have time for your lies" she said as she hurried somethings into a silver tray. Amongst these were bread, cheese and a couple glasses of wine. "Who are these for?" I asked and instantly regretted it. I knew better than to make conversation with my stepmother especially when she was already in a foul mood. "Don't ask stupid questions Diana. Just take this to the first table in the main hall" she ordered, placing the loaded tray in my hand. "Okay mother" I said and turned around to leave before she remembered another item she had not added to the almost full tray. It was too heavy and the contents too tempting for someone as hungry as I am. "One more thing" she said and I froze in my tracks. I was so weak that the tray was already unusually heavy for me. Does she still want to add more? "Yes mother" I turned around and pleaded with my eyes that she just let me go even though I already knew she would not "You have to wear this" she said and retrieved a red veil from almost out of no where before stretching it to me "Have it" "Why?" my long and black hair was one of the few things I was allowed to keep in this house and it never bothered anyone so what happened today?" "You are becoming more daring by the day girl. Have you forgotten who you are talking to?" she said, fuming with rage which was clear from the redness of her cheeks. "No mother, I am sorry" I said as I carefully placed the tray on a table nearby and collected the cloth from her, examining it. "Wear it!" she barked, her black eyes glaring at me. I became so scared I began to shake instead of putting the veil over my head. "Yes mother" I replied still holding the veil in my trembling hands, praying that it does not fall off and anger her further. "Now!" at the mention of that word, I knew my stepmother had lost her patience and might just snap at any given time. I hastily put the veil over my head. "I will go now mother" I said as I picked back the tray and went as fast as I could without the contents of the tray spilling off. "This times are always so precious and should be cherished while we have them" came the voice of my stepfather, the true host of tonight's event. "Yes they should" someone replied and I could hear the sound of my stepfather's forced laughter m the distance. I already knew that was the table I would be delivering the tray to. "You are indeed wise Elder Dane. It's always a pleasure to hear from you" Roxanne chimed in at just the right time, finishing where her father started. No wonder her parents loved her. "Your daughter is so courteous. A great quality for a wife and I daresay a Luna" the Elder said and right there, I almost tripped. Roxanne? A Luna? "Careful" came the kind voice of yet another guests whose hands on my body kept me steady and the items on the tray from slipping out. "Thank you" I said from the bottom of my heart. It was very difficult to come by someone so kind. All I ever saw was cruelty and pride from my foster family and their guests. "You're welcome" he said and went to see at the table that I was going to serve. I did not mind serving him but Roxanne and my stepfather were also on that table with two other men. Amongst them, sitting quietly with a powerful and dangerous aura around him, was the guest I saw on the roof. The one who looked a lot like the stranger in my dream
