I watched him move through the council with a practiced ease that only someone who had been before the goddess herself could possess. Diana had a similar grace, I suddenly noticed. He looked at me, placing a hand on his staff. “I apologize if I have caused some misunderstandings here, Alpha,” he said, bowing his head low, causing me to stand up. “There’s no need for that, Lazarus,” I said as I walked over to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. “If anything,” I muttered under my breath, “I’m a bit agitated. My elders don’t see the need to save a child’s life.” Lydia stood up. “Forgive me, Alpha,” she said. “But we are not all together in believing that the worth of these children is nothing. We want them safe as much as you do. It’s just that, unfortunately, we stand too divided.” She pointed at the other council members. “They believe they are right. They believe that since they are the purposed sons and dau
