Chapter 9 MEETING HIM

VEGA "You will know when you meet him." Her father said, making his face expressionless. She wished she could ask more questions. Was she in trouble? Could it be that he had actually seen her? For goddess' sake, can she stop putting herself and her pack in trouble? "Don't forget to act natural, Vega; I believe you know what I mean." This made her a little confused, if she was in trouble, her father sure wouldn't say that to her. Immediately she ran back into her room, she showered as quickly as she could, not wanting to delay him. As she was thinking of what to wear, she couldn't help but wonder for what reason the Lycan king requested her presence. She thought of what to wear; she initially picked up a blue flowery gown but immediately dropped it back down when she realised she had no reason to look good in front of him since he'd already mated to her sister. She had to understand that there's nothing between them anymore, even though it still hurt her like crazy to accept the fact. Before leaving the room, she did one most important thing, and that was to hide her scent. It would be a disaster if he ever discovered her scent, and she's already having the feeling that he's suspecting something, but at this point, her pack was very much indispensable to her. Vega came down to meet the Lycan king as she was requested. She had initially pleaded with her wolf Jackie to bear with her and not get angry, even though her sister might be there. The moment she stepped foot into the gigantic sitting room, her heart began to race, and fear gripped her as beads of sweat started forming on her forehead. She realised she's in the presence of the Lycan king, his powerful scent filled the room, or maybe just her nose. She bowed to him without meeting his eyes, not wanting to expose herself. Just as she glanced sideways, she saw her sisters shooting daggers in her direction. Could things get worse? This was all to warn her not to give herself away, and Vega could not help but well up at this knowing fact. She controlled herself not to cry in his presence. REYNOLD The moment this twin set foot into the living room, his senses became a room of confusion. At first, all he wanted to do was reprimand her for not coming down to pay her respects to him, but seeing how she slowly came into view, whatever anger he had left suddenly dissipated. What was wrong with him? He hadn't seen her face, but it seemed as though he knew her. He had heard she was identical to his mate, and curiosity built inside him again. "Why did you choose not to come see your guest?" He asked, trying to sound as strict as possible so he wouldn't be misunderstood by the sound of his voice. She immediately knelt in front of him. "Pardon this foolish subject." She said in a low tone, still not wanting to meet his eyes. Reynold immediately noticed the tension in the room. Why is everyone so tense all of a sudden? Her voice did funny things to his body, strangely enough he could not perceive a scent from her. This was weird. Everyone had a scent, but why did she not have one? Could it be that she hid hers? That can't be; she had no reason to do that. He was curious to see how she looked; he could only see that she had the same colour of hair as his mate, but he had yet to see how her face looked. "Raise your head when talking to me," he said in a simple but harsh tone. She slowly raised her head up to meet him, and the moment he saw her eyes, his wolf panicked. He started getting restless like he used to. Her eyes were like a magnet, and he found it hard to tear his eyes off hers. He had suddenly forgotten the next question to ask, not until she spoke first. He couldn't help but notice her fair skin and how smooth her face and body were; she was fairer than all the models he had seen in his company. Reynold... You have a mate already; you can't possibly be attracted to her twin no matter what; it is against the rule for goddess' sake. "My name is Vega, your Highness." She must have thought he wanted her to say her name. Vega...., her name reverberated in his head. Reynold knew he was in trouble the moment he saw her, but what was more confusing was the scent—where did the scent go? It was not as though he could explain his difficulty to anyone; this was a personal confusion. It was bad enough that the scent made his wolf crazy, seeing his mate's twin had suddenly put him in an even tighter spot. What was he going to say to her now? Yes, of course he requested to see her, and she's here. "Uhm, your Majesty, it's getting late, considering you have a long journey ahead of you." Alpha Blake said taking him out of his thoughts. He gestured for her to get up, which she did, her eyes glued to the floor. He couldn't help but wonder if she was really reckless, just like the information he received. Furthermore, he knew he had to leave, but still, he couldn't help but wonder what secrets Vega held. He had suddenly become interested in her, but because she was his mate's twin, he did his very best to comport himself. He finally left with his mate Victoria, and just as they were leaving, he glanced back to take one last look at her, only to find her eyes watering. Could it be that she was crying? Suddenly his heart constricted in an unimaginable pain; the tears of Vega covered his senses. Why did he feel so bad seeing her tears and for what reason was she crying? Maybe she was crying for her sister, but strangely enough, he never saw the two exchange words until they left. There must be something going on around the house that he didn't know of because he also observed how nervous Alpha Blake became when he first requested to see Vega. It was as though he didn't want her to be seen by him. It's time to forget about his confusion since they were already heading to his kingdom, he thought. Meanwhile, Vega ran to her room and watched as the cars pulled out of the pack house. She watched until they were out of sight. She was not aware that meeting the Lycan Alpha could hurt her so badly. If she had known the hurt would have been this intense, she would never have agreed to meet him. How could her father and sister become so cruel to her? How could they do this to her when they fully knew how it felt for a mate not to notice you? Her case wasn't because he didn't notice her, but because she had to hide away from him for her family's sake. She wished her father could sacrifice once for her and not just think about Victoria only. Now that Victoria had successfully left with her mate, she wished she would be happy snatching someone else's mate! Vega said in anger. Life had lost its meaning when the only hope she had was snatched away from her. How was she to live her life now? It's not like her father would start loving her all of a sudden, she knew he wouldn't. She couldn't bear to go through the pain alone, and now she had to confront her father since the Alpha was no longer in the pack. She marched to the study room as usual, but he wasn't there. She searched everywhere, only to be told by the houseworkers that he was in Victoria's room. That angered her the more, so he missed her already, just after she left a few minutes ago? She marched to Victoria's room and found her father, arranging her room and putting Victoria's scattered belongings she left behind in their place. She could not believe what she saw, so he preferred to tidy up her sister's room himself rather than bring in the workers to do the job. "Are you happy now?" She said, standing at the doorpost. He raised his head up from what he was doing to take a quick glance at her. He put his head down to continue what he was doing as though he never saw her. "You should be happy; your favourite daughter just stole her twin sister's mate!" Vega could no longer contain her anger at this point. She had suddenly become brave in front of the man she had always been afraid of all these years. She had tried to understand him, but the more she tried, the more absurd everything seemed. "Aren't you going to say anything now?" Her father suddenly left what he was doing and breathed a very long sigh. "What do you want me to say, Vega?" He asked as though nothing had happened. "I want to know why you hate me so much." "What are you talking about? I don't hate you." He said again innocently. Vega scoffed at his denial. "You sure do hate me father; it's very obvious," but her father never said anything. This made Vega angry to the point where tears ran down her cheeks uncontrollably. "Maybe I was adopted, you might have pretended to love me back because mom was still alive." This statement seemed to have moved her father, as he raised his head towards her, his facial expression looked like that of a person who was confused. "You can return me to my parents, or better yet, tell me who they are!" She lashed out at her father. "Your mother died because of you!" He responded as he clenched his hands into a fist. Vega immediately felt weak on the knee as she fell down with a thud. Her heart began to beat fast; she could not believe her father had said that. She raised her head towards him, and she saw him sitting on the floor. Tears were running down his cheeks. She could not believe her father could cry because it was her first time seeing him cry. Had she really misunderstood him this time? "You had no wolf when you were born; you were destined to die." Vega froze, her heart constricted. "I told her to let you go, but she was too stubborn; her death was as a result of her giving you her powers to build up a wolf." In essence, was her father saying she caused the death of her mother? Was this the reason he hated her? Vega hated herself currently; she wished she had died; she wished her mom didn't save her; maybe she would still be alive. She did not blame her father now; who would want to have a child who caused the death of their parents? She deserved to be hated. Vega immediately ran out of her sister's room as she cried bitterly. She ran to her room and closed the door behind her. All she wanted to do was die. She should kill herself; this way she wouldn't have to remind her father of his mate's death. How could she not have known she was like a thorn in his flesh? She could not help but think that each time he saw her, he was reminded of the reason his mate died. Vega thought of what could kill her so quickly to end the pain, and suddenly, her wolf cried out. "Is this how you will repay her sacrifices for you!?" Vega froze. Indeed,  she had been stupid; how could she not have thought of this? Her mother certainly did not give her life only to end up ruining it because of her emotions. What was she to do now, when her father always got reminded of his pains whenever he saw her?
