Anderson just said that before going upstairs. He didn't take the candle with him.
Mayra moved to the couch. She was afraid of the dark but didn't dare to tell him. That night, Mayra could only sleep on the couch.
In the middle of the night, she woke up to find that the candle on the coffee table had burned out. She was so scared that she ran to Anderson's room without much thought. Her mind was blank, not giving her time to think it over.
Anderson was awakened by the commotion. He reached out to turn on the lights before remembering that the power was out.

Mayra clutched at the sides of her pajamas nervously. After some time, she stammered, "The power's out, and I'm scared. Where are the candles?"
