Chapter 17
At the ground floor exit, when Aiden and Chloe saw each other, they both were momentarily stunned. It turned out that Aiden had followed Chloe. He initially thought he had mistaken the person, but it was indeed Chloe.
"Chloe, are you here to find me?" Aiden asked with a smile.
Chloe looked a bit awkward and shook her head.
Aiden's eyes showed a hint of sadness. "So, you're here to find Ethan..."
"Aiden, it's not what you think," Chloe explained. "I took a job from a bar, and I didn't expect it to be Ethan's. Today, I came to ask him for money."
Changing the subject, Aiden asked, "Is everything okay with your father?"
Chloe's eyes dimmed.
Aiden immediately noticed this change and quickly said, "If you need money, just tell me."
Squeezing her palms, Chloe struggled and said, "Can you lend me two hundred thousand now?"
Henry was still lying in the ICU, and the doctor said he needed at least six or seven more days of observation. The cost for these days would be around one hundred thirty thousand. They hadn't gathered enough money for Lucy's surgery either. The five thousand Ethan transferred just now was far from enough.
Almost as soon as Chloe finished speaking, Aiden took out his phone, called his assistant, and asked him to transfer the money to Chloe tomorrow.
Chloe didn't expect that, after the wedding incident, Aiden would still be willing to help her. Guilt and gratitude surged in her heart. For a moment, she felt truly despicable about herself.
"I will definitely repay you for this money," she promised.
Ethan circled the parking lot twice but didn't see Chloe's car. He thought she had already left, unaware that she had sold her car.
Chloe returned to her rented apartment in Middleton, rearranged her belongings, and then opened her computer. Her previous account became unusable after exposure from those marketing posts. The new account, lacking followers, made it challenging to receive orders. However, she dared not post her previous works on the new account, fearing recognition.
She thought that after yesterday's extensive promotion and reposting, there would be customers inquiring today. However, reality was starkly different from her expectations. There were no new customers and not even any inquiries in her list.
Feeling disappointed, she decided to launch another round of advertising. If there was no improvement, she might have to find another way.
Early the next morning, Chloe received a message indicating that Aiden had transferred money to her. Looking at the amount, she was taken aback. Three hundred thousand! Seeing the extra one hundred thousand, her heart was filled with mixed emotions.
She opened Snapchat and sent a message to Aiden. "Thirty thousand is not a small amount. Will your mother..."
Aiden replied quickly, "You don't need to worry. She won't find out about this."
Seeing Aiden's reassurance, Chloe felt slightly relieved.
Around 9 in the morning, Chloe boarded the bus back to Greenwood.
Upon arriving in Greenwood, she immediately went to the hospital and deposited the fifty thousand dollars that Ethan had transferred into her account. With some time left, she headed towards her mother's hospital room.
In the corridor, anxious family members hurriedly walked by.
Chloe was bumped hard by someone walking briskly. Her body lost balance, and she fell towards the ground. Suddenly, a large hand from behind grabbed her, efficiently pulling her back. Everything happened so quickly that she hadn't fully reacted until she stood steadily.
"Are you okay?" A clear and steady male voice sounded near her ear.
