Chapter 3: My Husband Loves Me Very Much

Lainey was woken up at dawn. There were two servants by the bed. “Miss Warren, Mr. Sloan ordered us to ask you to leave.” Lainey quickly sat up, her face all alert, “Where is Mr. Sloan? I’m not leaving!” “Mr. Sloan has gone out to work. Miss Warren, please get dressed and leave here right away. Don’t make things difficult for us, okay?” The two servants were very nonchalant as one of them grabbed Lainey’s arm and dragged her off the bed. “What are you doing?” “Miss Warren, Mr. Sloan has asked you to leave!” Although the servants knew that Lainey was the Mrs. Sloan that Vicente had found for Winfred, they did what they were told as this family was dominated by Winfred. Therefore, they were naturally not that polite to Lainey. With a bang, the door shut mercilessly in front of Lainey. Tears welled up in Lainey’s eyes instantly. She was going to be driven away by Winfred. The Warren family was going to go bankrupt, and there would be no money for her mother’s treatment. Thinking of the sacrifices she had made last night in order to stay, Lainey cried in aggravation. But self-pity was not her style, and the sadness only existed for two minutes. Soon Lainey wiped away the tears. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll wait outside if you don’t allow me to stay inside. I don’t believe you won’t come home for a day!” Lainey huffed and puffed and simply sat down at the bottom of the steps outside the front door. She had promised Vicente that she would stay! In the study. Winfred frowned as he looked at the surveillance video on the computer, looking extremely cold. “Mr. Sloan, shall I go and ask her to leave?” Vernon Sloan, Winfred’s subordinate, saw this and volunteered to help. “She was sent here by the old fox, so be careful not to offend her too much.” Winfred acquiesced to Vernon’s suggestion. Vernon took the order and left. When Vernon saw Lainey sat outside the front door, he said unfriendly, “Miss Warren, the Heyday Mansion is not a shelter. You have affected its scenery, so please leave.” Although Mr. Sloan had told him not to offend Lainey too much, it didn’t mean that he couldn’t offend her. Therefore, Vernon carried Lainey and walked outside the courtyard directly. “Hey!” Lainey was upset at being carried like a chicken, “I am Winfred’s wife! Do you know the consequences of treating me like this? Hurry up and let go of me! Otherwise my husband won’t spare you when he comes back!” Vernon almost couldn’t hold back his laughter if it weren’t for that he had been trained professionally. “Miss Warren, it was our Mr. Sloan who asked you to leave.” Lainey looked embarrassed. It felt really bad to be exposed on the spot. “Where is he? Can you ask him to come out and meet me?” “I’m sorry, but Mr. Sloan won’t meet you.” Unceremoniously, Vernon rejected Lainey’s request and threw her out of the courtyard in the next second. As a result, Lainey almost fell on the ground face down. As soon as she got up woefully from the ground, she unexpectedly found that she had been surrounded by a group of reporters with long cameras and microphones. “Lainey, it’s said that you and Mr. Sloan already got your marriage license. Is it true?” “It’s said that Mr. Sloan is super scary and his first six wives were all nearly killed by him. Is there such a thing?” “What made you go out of your way to marry such a maniac? Aren’t you afraid of being killed by him?” “Lainey, you’re in such a mess now. Have you been kicked out because you didn’t serve Mr. Sloan well last night?” “…” These reporters were asking questions one after another, and the questions were getting sharper and sharper. At the very beginning, Lainey was fidgety with her head down and moved her hands at a loss. However, she gradually got angry as she heard the questions. Lainey raised her head and glared at the reporters who created news and entertainment by trampling on other people’s self-esteem for fun, and pulled a long face. “Who said my husband is a maniac? He is super nice! As for the six wives who were almost killed, nonsense! My husband has never acknowledged them. He only married me recently, okay?” Lainey’s words stunned the reporters. How come this was different from the news they got? “Miss Warren, do you dare not to say something bad about Winfred because you’re afraid of offending him? Don’t worry, as long as you tell me the true nature of Winfred, I will guarantee your safety.” The one who spoke was a female reporter with bright red lipstick, looking experienced in interviews. “You guys must have watched too many TV dramas, right? I’ve told you, my husband is very nice. He was gentle to me last night! Please don’t write nonsense to destroy our relationship!” Seeing that these people actually went to such great lengths to try to dig out secrets against Winfred, Lainey was furious. Lainey had promised Vicente that she would treat Winfred well, so there was no way she would say anything bad about him. Those reporters were rendered confused completely by Lainey’s righteous words for Winfred. “Winfred looks so horrible. Why did you marry him?” Lainey was only nineteen years old, but Winfred was already thirty, ugly and horrible-looking. Then why was she willing to marry him? “There’s something wrong with your thoughts! How could you judge a person by his appearance? What’s more important is his inner beauty, okay? What’s the use of being good-looking? And don’t ugly people deserve to live? Besides, my husband was just accidentally injured and disfigured. What’s so terrible about it? What’s wrong with me marrying him?” Lainey hated judging people by their appearance, especially this kind of people who stepped on other people’s self-esteem to judge them, which was even more detestable. What was wrong with being bad-looking? It was none of their business! Just as Lainey was dealing with the group of reporters, a black Maybach drove out from the side door of the courtyard noiselessly. Winfred stroked his chin with his index finger, his eyes still fixed on the laptop screen. Because of the camera at the door, the dialogue of Lainey and those reporters was heard by him clearly. Lainey had spoken so much to defend him! She was the first of all the women who had ever come to the Heyday Mansion who had been willing to put in a good word for him! Winfred clearly didn’t sleep with Lainey last night, but she went so far as to destroy her own reputation in order to defend him and also to prove to the outside world that he was fine, along with the clarification of his reputation as the maniac, which had been twisting and smearing his image. What impressed Winfred the most about Lainey was that her remarks about her opinion on looks were not at all as superficial as other women’s. “Vernon, go bring her here.” Winfred’s order made Vernon a little confused. But that was an order. So Vernon quickly pulled over, got out of the car and came straight to the courtyard gate. “Mrs. Sloan, Mr. Sloan asked you to get in the car.” “Oh?” Seeing Vernon bowing to her, with such a huge attitude change before and after, Lainey was a bit baffled. Was Winfred going to drive her away himself? She’d just bragged and lied in front of these reporters. Was she going to be exposed?
