Gabriel thought of the two men he saw at the bar last night. He recognised one of them as Dashiell Kellan, Elodie’s sort-of ex-husband. Gabriel wondered if Dashiell still had feelings for Elodie and wanted to reconcile. He frowned at the thought. Over breakfast, Gabriel couldn’t help but bring up the subject. ‘I bet that Dashiell guy is feeling sorry for himself now that you’ve left him. He’s probably realised how great you are and wants to get back together with you.’ Elodie recalled what happened last night. ‘You think so?’ ‘Of course,’ Gabriel said. ‘He’s a fool if he doesn’t.’ Elodie sighed and bit into her toast. ‘I don’t know.’ ‘If Dashiell is really coming for you, what’s your game plan?’ Elodie shrugged, her expression shifting from introspective to cool indifference. ‘The divorce signifies a clean break. And right now, I don’t want to think about stuff like that, not while I’ve got tons of work to do.’ An hour later, Elodie stepped out of the car and into the bright sunlight o
