Chapter 66

Shelmaine relaxed only after making sure Julien wasn't following her. She returned to her place and poured herself a glass of water to calm down. As she sat on the couch with the glass in hand, she sensed that something was off. She looked around the room and noticed that the window of the living room was open, and the white lace drapes were billowing in the breeze. Shelmaine remembered having specifically checked to ensure that all windows and lights were closed and turned off before going out earlier today. How could the window be open? Or had she remembered incorrectly? She got up to close the window again and returned to the couch. Staying alone made her extra vigilant, so she took out her phone and checked the home surveillance cameras, only to discover that they had been tampered with and weren't working. Realizing something was wrong, she pretended to stay calm, grabbed her keys, and prepared to leave. She changed her shoes and walked out, safely making it to the elevator.
