Kieran opened his mouth but couldn’t form a reply.
‘You must be hungry.’ I got up from the sofa. ‘I’ll whip something up.’
I paused. ‘By the way, we’re signing the divorce papers tomorrow.’
I reached for the light switch on the wall.
He got there before me and pulled me into his arms.
‘I’m sorry.’ He buried his head in my shoulder. ‘I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.’
‘Forget it.’ I stood with my arms by my sides. ‘It doesn’t matter now.’
Even if he told me the truth back then, it would not have changed a thing.
Dad would still be dead.
Landon and I would still be divorced.
I would still be made a complete idiot.
I tried to push him away, but he wouldn’t let go.
‘Honey, we agreed on two months.’ His breath was hot against my ear.
His voice was beseeching.
‘I changed my mind,’ I said. ‘You’ve got your inheritance, haven’t you? I held up my end of the bargain. If you are worried about the cooling-off period, we can get an annulment instead of a divorce.’
