Parenting was a team effort, and having my husband’s support would make a huge difference.
‘You have nothing to apologise for,’ I said. ‘And there’s no need to beat yourself up too much about the past. We can’t change what has already happened.’
‘Thank you for being so understanding.’ He exhaled. ‘I guess I’ve been reflecting on everything lately, and it has made me wonder if we should have more children. I don’t want to overwhelm you or put you through more challenging times if you feel it’s too much.’
‘What are you saying?’
‘I think two kids are enough,’ Kieran said, taking a deep breath. ‘What do you think?’
I mulled it over. ‘Maybe you’re right.’
‘We don’t have to make a decision right now. I just want you to know what I think, that’s all.’
I nodded, glancing at our baby daughter wrapped up in a tiny blanket.
Everything about her was tiny—tiny fingers, tiny hands, tiny nose.
Her cherubic lips had a colour that reminded me of delicate rosebuds.
She was truly adorable.
