I knew better than to pry, so I just packed up some of the leftover lamb shanks for Eimile and issued a standing invitation for dinner.
She paused at the doorway, turned back to give me a hug.
‘When I first saw you, I thought you looked a lot like Sarah. The eyes, especially. That’s why I helped you out at the detention centre. But now that I’ve gotten to know you a little, I realised the two of you are totally different. Apples and oranges, really. Kieran’s lucky to have found you.’
‘I feel the same way about him.’
She flashed a brilliant smile at me as the lift door slid shut.
I went back to the bedroom, flopped into bed, checked my phone.
No communications from Kieran all day.
He must still be stuck in meetings.
I wanted to call him, but didn’t want to interrupt whatever he was doing, so I opted for text.
Me: Another day of missing you.
I went into the bathroom, stripped in front of the mirror, sucked in my chuck-roast-filled stomach, took a selfie and sent it to him.
