I had never really paid attention to what my father kept in his office. It was usually just a bunch of old relics he had brought home from the university to study or write papers on. Nothing all that interesting I must admit. Baba had once asked me to read one of his papers on a small statue of a noble. I think he regretted it almost immediately because I barely understood what he was going on about and he managed to find a way to say the exact same thing in two million different ways. He could have just saved time by writing “ancient piece of art saved from destruction because it looked pretty”. Instead, I was bored into unconsciousness by his lengthy written monologue.
I stared at the vase, trying to see if I remembered anything my father may have said about it but came up empty handed and shook my head.
“No clue. I never really paid any attention to my father’s work.” I admitted, a bit ashamed because it was part of my heritage.
