Back in her office, Amara couldn’t help but impatiently tap her feet as she waited for Elijah to return.
But he was taking to long.
Unconsciously, she began picking on the skin beside her thumb, a habit she had developed in high school each time she got really worried.
He should have been back by now, she thought, glancing at the door and then looking away.
Taking this long wasn’t meant to happen, except…
Amara paused her movements and sighed deeply, dropping her hand and shaking her head.
“No,” She began, denying her thoughts. “Don’t jump to conclusions.”
She didn’t want to start worrying over the smallest things. Elijah was probably having trouble getting the food, maybe the pack had ripped, or someone bumped into him.
“Stop thinking the worst.” She said to herself.
But just when she thought she had succeeded in calming her mind, the door slid open, revealing a smiling Elijah who stood in the doorway, the basket of fruit and another lunchbox in his hand.
