Chapter 6
"Aren't you supposed to be moving out? Why aren't you leaving?" Leon questioned as he stared straight into Victoria's eyes.
"I don't need your reminder. I'm leaving anyway. This place is full of trash; I can't stand another second here." Victoria grabbed her suitcase.
With that, she turned and left without hesitation.
Seeing her act so resolute, Leon's eyes darkened slightly. "Wait."
Victoria paused.
Before she could speak, his gaze fell on her suitcase. Then, he turned to the bodyguards at the door and ordered, "Inspect Ms. Smith's suitcase. Make sure there's nothing inside that doesn't belong to her."
"What do you mean by that?" Victoria held onto her suitcase protectively.
"Considering your earlier attempt to steal jewelry, there's no telling if you've taken other things as well. Checking it is for everyone's best interest." Leon knew exactly how to push her into a corner.
"Is that who I am to you?" Disappointment and anger filled Victoria's gaze.
Leon's heart softened briefly, but when he remembered how determined she'd been to leave, he said indifferently, "That's right."
A sharp pain filled Victoria's heart. She could accept that Leon no longer loved her and his coldness, but she couldn't stand him humiliating her in front of Eva.
This wasn't just a challenge to her character; it was a slap to her face.
"This is an invasion of privacy, and I won't allow that to happen. If you insist on searching, either call the police and have them handle it, or chop my hands off."
Her grip on the suitcase handle tightened like never before, and she stared at him. She was as unyielding as always.
Leon stepped closer, and under her defiant gaze, pried her fingers off the suitcase one by one. Her efforts to hold on with all her strength proved futile as he easily broke her grip.
He handed the suitcase to the bodyguards as if he were simply handling official business. "Search it thoroughly. Don't miss a single corner."
"Yes, sir," the bodyguard responded without hesitation.
"Leon!" Victoria's eyes turned red as she yanked the suitcase back. She'd never suffered such humiliation in her life.
Leon remained expressionless, and his eyes were devoid of the tenderness he once had for her.
"Would you only be satisfied after crushing my dignity beneath your feet? I refuse to believe you actually think I'd steal from you!"
At this moment, all of Victoria's lifelong pride shattered. The once-glorious daughter of a wealthy family was reduced to nothing but a fallen woman.
Leon did know the truth. He knew her better than anyone that she'd never take anything that didn't belong to her, but he wanted her to understand the consequences of making the wrong choice.
"Maybe we should just drop this. You and Leon were once husband and wife after all. Even if you did steal something, you're entitled to it." Seeing the hesitation in Leon's expression, Eva decided to step in and offer him a way out.
"Can you just shut up?" Victoria snapped. Her disgust toward Eva remained unchanged.
Leon thought she was foolish and easily provoked. She spoke without considering the consequences. This meant she'd only suffer in the outside world.
Why couldn't she just stay by his side?
"Fine. I'll let this go for Eva's sake." He no longer pressed Victoria, but his words left her feeling even more aggrieved.
Victoria grabbed her suitcase. Just as she was about to fire back at them, Thomas approached and announced, "Mr. Quigley, Ms. Smith, Mr. Edwin is back."
They froze. Before they could react, a well-behaved boy in suspenders followed behind Thomas and stepped in.
