CHAPTER 481: THE RIFT
"Is that not your phone?" George asked, his tired eyes trying to peer into Lauretta's black bag on his desk. The sound wasn't a ring but a notification. It came again, brief but distinct.
They had been working on the case against Alexander, and white files were scattered all over the table. Lauretta was compiling the documents and preparing to leave, and George was about to head out.
"I'll check it later," Lauretta said, organizing the papers. She was so exhausted she could hardly wait to get home and freshen up with a bath. Her lilac long-sleeve shirt was rolled up to her elbows, and her black pants clung to her skin. Despite all the stress, she couldn't believe she was gaining weight.
She yawned, quickly covering her mouth with her palm, and used the tip of her left finger to push back the hair that had fallen over her eyes, obstructing her view of the documents.
"We need to wrap this up soon," George remarked, shuffling the files into a semblance of order.
