CHAPTER 26 A GLIMPSE WITHIN

I glanced at my watch as two other men entered the room and sat down, their eyes flickering at me with a slight nod of acknowledgement. There was still no sign of Minerva, and I slowly began to accept that I underestimated her assertiveness.
"Sir, everyone else is here except Miss Tau," one of the werewolves, Antuan, began to say. "Perhaps you could give her a briefing on the meeting afterward?"
He had barely finished before I replied.
"No, we'll wait a few more minutes; something important must have delayed her."
The last part was for me to convince myself that she had a better reason for not showing up on time, aside from her constant willingness to oppose me.
I took a deep breath and focused my eyes on the door, even as my mind began to race through the subject of the meeting.
It was apparent we had gravely miscalculated the effectiveness of a search duty because, so far, we had found no significant leads to the massacres. It was almost as if we had been circling
