"Me?" Veronica had been lost in thought. She snapped back to the present and poured Yasmin a cup of warm water. "As long as you're okay, that's what matters most," she said with a soft smile. "Maybe it was just an accident. Someone must've mixed in raw peanuts by mistake. Either way, it's over now. What's important is that you're safe." In other words, the truth didn't matter. Yasmin studied her for a long moment. "Is that so?" Veronica had the distinct feeling Yasmin knew something, but she didn't feel rattled by it. She met Yasmin's gaze calmly, unwavering. Yasmin used exhaustion as an excuse to send everyone away. She still needed to stay in the hospital for two more days. "Aren't you busy?" she asked, glancing at Caleb, who remained seated on the couch with no intention of leaving. Caleb finished responding to a final message, tossed his phone aside, and walked over to her. He reached out and touched her hand, the one that had just been hooked up to an IV. Yasmin frowned.
