Chapter 3
All of the interviewees were well-dressed and had exquisite makeup on. After hearing the president's question, not only did no one flinch, but they were able to respond calmly.
"The workplace is like a playing field. There are wins and losses every day. I think my biggest shortcoming may be my refusal to admit defeat. I dare to try everything and I am always willing to try..."
These few words not only praised the quality of the group's employment, but also expressed the awe of the future, and at the same time expressed their daring spirit.
From the first to the sixth, everyone listed their own shortcomings, but they easily turned the shortcomings back to an advantage, and the answers can only be described as brilliant and rock solid.
Lauren did not expect that Terrence would personally come to the interview. He has changed, compared to five years ago, he was more mature and restrained. The only thing that hasn't changed was his handsome face.
She thought she could be indifferent if she saw his face again, but she overestimated herself too much.
Lauren tried to convince herself that there was nothing to worry about. Terrence was someone who easily forgot about things that didn't matter. Maybe he had forgotten her face and name, so there was nothing to worry about.
But at this moment, his eyes locked onto hers.
Five years have passed, but he still has the ability to defeat her with just one look.
She wanted to escape, but there was nowhere to hide. Having reached this point, she knew she couldn't retreat.
After a long time, she leaned forward stiffly to answer.
"I am very lazy."
Terrence raised his eyes and said, "Besides being lazy, what other shortcomings do you have?"
He seemed to be giving her a chance to answer again. She didn't expect him to make things difficult, and he didn't seem to recognize her.
Lauren replied, "Persistence."
The other interviewers leaned back as if they didn't care anymore.
"Give us an example, what did you do to show your persistence?" Terrence handed the résumés back to Wendy, only he was interested in her answer.
"A man."
There were gasps one after another, even Wendy, who has always been mean and old-fashioned, changed her face and paid attention.
"Go on."
Lauren glanced at Terrence fearlessly, and said, "I chased a man for five years, and finally I was able to be with him."
"What happened then?" he asked.
"We got divorced."
Lauren looked down. She wasn't as proficient as him in speaking. When she mentioned the past, her heart was already in shambles.
"That was your persistence?" Terrence just smiled.
His thin lips had an unparalleled color that would make anyone in this world feel ashamed, but his voice was almost cold, and a faint sarcasm could be heard.
He wasn't satisfied with the answer.
Then he told Wendy without any expression, "Continue with the interview."
After Terrence's figure disappeared, the other interviewers couldn't help but laugh. They thought that applicant no. 7 was delusional to win the attention of the president with this pathetic trick.
Even Lauren herself thought that she was done for, but then she received a call from Wendy for employment.
"Miss Xu, please report to Gu's Media at eight o'clock tomorrow morning. In addition to this, the president asked me to tell you that not every persistence can represent love, especially the persistence that gives up midway."
He was still the same as five years ago. He still harmed people without remorse, and easily disregard her efforts into hell and deny everything.
Lauren adjusted her breath. "Then let me ask you to tell the president that being young and frivolous is my only explanation for that persistence."
Back when she was young and frivolous, she followed him around for five years regardless of any consequences, and only when she was young and frivolous was she able to know that he has another woman in his heart.
In the end, he was the one who ended their past, cleanly, with a knife in hand, and now she won't have any extravagant hopes.
The past was over, and she has lost her arrogance and edge. From now on, she only hoped to have a stable life, earn more money, and let her mother's illness stabilize.
She wrapped her heart tightly amongst other things. She had absurd dreams in her youth, now those dreams were broken, and the glimmer in those dreams slowly fade away as time went on.
The next day, she formally entered Gu's Media as a temporary employee.
At the Data Center Evaluation Department...
Anna Li, the manager in charge, was dressed in a stylish, black, knee-length skirt with heavy makeup and red lips, she stood straight in front of the crowd for a regular morning meeting.
"This month's performance has been sluggish. Am I indulging you guys too much? Others are late to work, others leave too early. If you are going to work like this, then I'm sorry, but the company will not accept this. They are constantly weighing pros and cons, and if they decide to not pay you then they won't pay you."
Anna walked back and forth on her seven-centimeter high heels, almost dancing with eagerness.
The evaluation department was mostly female. It was no surprise that the working environment there was nothing more than a daily competition for fame and fortune, especially with all the makeup and designer clothes.
People in the Network Engineering Department made jokes that every time they came to the evaluation department, they had to suffocate on the smell of perfume.
The worst part about that joke was that it was mostly true.
