Chapter 3 Run a Bath for Him
Allen personally went to the jewelry store to look for the woman. Unfortunately, by the time he got there, she was already gone.
The staff of the jewelry store entered the VIP room fretfully. The man in front of him was the most influential person in Jenova.
“I’ve never seen her before… I guess she rarely comes to our store…
“But I heard from her friend that her surname is Peterson.
“I'm sure I didn't see it wrongly. The ring that Ms. Peterson was wearing as a necklace is the ring in the picture. That ring is studded with diamonds, and the whole body is made of obsidian. It’s exactly the same as the one in the picture,” the staff said as he told Allen everything that he remembered.
Unfortunately, the jewelry store's surveillance cameras happened to be under maintenance today. In the end, they just learned that the woman’s surname was Peterson. They did not know what she looked like at all.
After they came out of the jewelry store, Henry asked in a low voice, “Mr. Whitlock, my brother and I will send more people to continue to track down Ms. Peterson. But what about Madison? Do you need me to get her back so that we can get the divorce paperwork done?”
Allen had promised to take care of the woman who appeared at The Nyx that night. Since they had already found the woman, it was time for them to kick Madison away. After all, they had accepted Madison because of Elder Master Richardson. What was more, Henry did not have a good impression of Madison. In his opinion, Madison was a shallow and materialistic woman.
Honestly, Allen had already rejected Elder Master Richardson when he first introduced Madison to him. Henry did not understand why Allen suddenly changed his mind after seeing her photo.
Madison was definitely not worthy of standing side by side with Allen.
The black luxury car stopped by the roadside, and Allen rolled down the window.
“I’ve already spent $150,000, so I have to see results. Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing. I won’t spend my money for nothing.”
He paused for a moment, his face as hard and dark as ebony.
“Inform Alfred to bring Madison to the apartment tonight. Don’t forget to tell him to teach her what she should and shouldn’t do.”
“Okay. Then what about Ms. Peterson?”
Allen lifted his head and glanced at Henry.
“We’ll talk about her later when we find her.”
-
The first thing Madison did after getting the money was to pay her mother’s medical bills.
She did not even leave a single cent for herself. This was because she knew Lily would come to ask for the money from her if she learned that she had extra money in her hands.
As soon as she finished paying the medical bills, her phone rang.
“B*tch! You’ve got a lot of nerves to find someone and do that to us! Listen carefully, you ungrateful piece of sh*t. Starting today, you are not allowed to set foot in the Peterson mansion. We won’t—”
Madison hung up the call without any hesitation, as she was not going to give Lily another chance to shower those vicious words at her.
She had already seen through the Petersons. She was thoroughly disappointed with them.
It was just that she did not know where she should stay tonight since she could not return to the Peterson mansion anymore.
“Ms. Campbell.”
A familiar voice rang out behind her when she did not know what she should do.
Madison looked back and saw the middle-aged man who had brought her away from the hospital this morning.
“It’s you again?”
She thought Allen would leave her aside after they completed the marriage formalities.
After all, they had already completed their deal.
“My name is Alfred, and I’m the butler of the Whitlock manor. I'll take you home now if you’ve finished your task here.”
“Take me home? I even have to move into the Whitlock manor?” Madison was stunned.
“No, with your current status, it is not suitable for you to live in the Whitlock manor. Mr. Whitlock has another apartment ready for you. I’ll bring you there later. I hope you’ll cooperate with me, Ms. Campbell. Don’t forget that you’ve received money from Mr. Whitlock.”
In other words, the Whitlocks had not accepted her yet, so she did not have the right to live in the Whitlock manor. Besides, she had to follow Allen’s instructions as well. After all, he had practically bought her.
Even though she did not want to stay under the same roof with that man, Madison knew she did not have the freedom to reject him.
“Alright. Please wait for me here. I’m going to get some clothes first.”
Madison returned to the ward and grabbed some clothes and daily necessities into a plastic bag before going downstairs to meet up with Alfred.
When Alfred saw the plastic bag in her hand, he was slightly stunned but did not make any comment about it.
After that, they entered a black luxury car.
The Petersons were rich, and Madison’s father was even richer. However, this was the first time she entered such a luxury car in the past year.
While living with the Petersons, Lily forbade her from taking their cars. Only her cousin, Vivian, had the chance to enjoy such luxury.
As for the Campbells… They were no longer her family.
Soon, the car drove into a high-end apartment downtown.
Alfred led Madison into the elevator and went to the top floor. The elevator brought them to the penthouse apartment on the top floor. When the door of the elevator opened, Madison’s eyes lit up.
The two-story duplex was even more spacious than she had imagined.
“Ms. Campbell, you’ll be staying here from today onward. A housekeeper will come to clean up the apartment when Mr. Whitlock is at work, and you're expected to handle the rest, Ms. Campbell. As Mr. Whitlock's wife, we hope you can take good care of him.”
“Hold on for a moment. I have to take care of him?” Madison blinked with disbelief written on her face.
She had been under the impression that a special person would tend to the basic daily needs of someone like Allen. She thought she was not needed at all.
“Mr. Whitlock doesn't like to see outsiders in his private space. Since only Mr. Whitlock and you will be living here, if you don't do it, then who will? Please don't forget that you've already gotten the money from Mr. Whitlock, Ms. Campbell.
“As such, you've got to hold up your end of the bargain. As a qualified Mrs. Whitlock, I think you don't need me to repeat over and over again what you need to do, right?” Alfred said matter-of-factly.
Even though Madison knew Alfred was just stating the truth, she still felt hurt by his words.
After a short while of silence, she forced a smile on her face and said, “Alright. I’ll take care of Mr. Whitlock.”
It was only now she realized how naive she was. She had nearly forgotten that she had sold herself to Allen. She was not the owner of this place.
Alfred nodded and added. “Oh yeah, feel free to use the rooms on the first floor. The first room on the left side is your bedroom. But one thing you need to remember is that the second floor is Mr. Whitlock's personal space. Unless Mr. Whitlock allows it, no one is permitted to set foot on it. Please keep that in mind, Ms. Campbell.”
Alfred left after telling Madison everything.
Before Alfred left, he told her that Allen usually arrived home around 7:30 p.m. and that she had to get dinner ready before it.
After Madison finished putting her stuff away, she looked at the clock and realized it was already 6:00 p.m.
She did not have time to rest anymore and started to prepare dinner. The cooking utensils were brand new, and there were no suitable ingredients in the refrigerator.
Madison had no choice but to use her money and buy some ingredients from the grocery store downstairs.
Soon, the dinner was ready.
However, Allen did not come home even after the clock struck 8:00 p.m.
Madison did not have his contact, so she did not know if he was coming back for dinner or not. She could only put the cold meal back on the stove to heat it up again and again…
She waited until 11:00 p.m., but Allen hadn’t returned home yet. She was so tired that she could barely keep her eyes open. In the end, she fell asleep at the dining table.
When it was 11:45 p.m., a noise came from the other side of the door.
The first thing that welcomed Allen after he opened the door was a petite figure lying on the dining table in a sleeping posture.
Allen frowned. Apparently, he had forgotten he had instructed Alfred to bring Madison over here.
“Ugh… Who is it?”
As if she heard something in her sleep, Madison slowly cracked her eyes open.
The way she mumbled the question sounded like a soft whisper in the man's ear.
The creases on Allen’s forehead deepened into furrows as a dark glint crossed his pupils.
Madison woke up instantly upon realizing who the man staring at her coldly was.
“Mr… Mr. Whitlock, you’re back…”
She sprang up from the chair and combed through her long, messy hair that had gotten disheveled in her sleep. She had already taken a shower and changed into a faded long dress while waiting for Allen.
She allowed her long hair to cascade down her shoulders. Her skin was clear, and her fair cheeks were tinted with the pink of the faintest roses. The swelling on her face was gone.
At present, she was standing in front of Allen in a flustered manner.
Allen looked at her, and his face sank. He had no idea why, but it reminded him of something, and an intense emotion flitted across his eyes.
“Umm… I made dinner. Wait for a moment—”
Before Madison could finish her sentence, Allen suddenly approached her in a few quick steps. He gripped her by her chin and pinned her on the table behind her.
Madison was stunned. “Mr. Whitlock? What are you doing?”
She looked at the man with a dark expression. Her eyes were liquid, and her face betrayed her shock.
She felt a sharp pain spreading from her back as the sharp edge of the table grazed her skin.
Madison did not know what she had said wrong.
“Madison Campbell!” Allen hissed, his voice thick with desire.
He grabbed her face tightly as he focused his gaze on her. His calloused fingertips rubbed over her chin. His gaze was intense and deep, like the raging deep blue sea that was going to consume her whole, and her heartbeat started to race while standing so close to him.
Just when she thought he was going to stay silent like this, his cold voice rang out beside her ears.
“You listen carefully, Madison. Stop seducing me,” warned Allen as he gazed at her alluring eyes.
“What?” Madison was stunned, her brain a muddled mess.
Madison did not know what Allen was talking about at all.
She had only made him dinner and waited for him all night. She did not understand why he said she was seducing him.
“The way you’re dressed, your hairstyle, and your gestures, who are you planning to show them to? And the way you look at me, it sickens me to the core.”
He grabbed tightly at her chin, and his words were sharp as they stabbed mercilessly into Madison’s heart.
It seemed like he had seen something on her face.
“The past is in the past. I'm not going to hold you responsible for all your ‘great deeds’, and I don't care and don't want to know which man you've slept with in the past. But everything is going to end, starting today. As long as you're still Mrs. Whitlock, I hope you'll do justice to the role. I don't wish my wife to be a loose woman.
“Ingrain this deeply in your mind, Madison. Don’t ever try to flirt with me. You’re not worthy of doing that.”
After that, he released her.
Madison gave a stifled grunt as she forced herself to stand straight.
She knew what Allen was talking about.
He did not like her attire. He probably was disgusted by her faded dress and felt she had brought disgrace to him.
As for his humiliation and misunderstanding…
Madison closed her eyes. Her eyelashes fluttered, and she did not plan to explain anything.
Starting a year ago, she had learned not to care about those rumors.
“Okay, Mr. Whitlock. I’ll go back to my room now.”
She turned around and walked past Allen with her head held low.
Even though she seemed a lot meeker than just now, her attitude made Allen frown unconsciously.
Before Madison could return to her room, Allen’s voice sounded behind her.
“Did I say you can leave now? Go upstairs and run a bath for me.”
