Chapter Twenty-Six - Fletcher
Dang it.
It was bound to happen eventually but I was hoping for later, much later. The look of horror on her face stopped me in my tracks.
Levi hissed under his breath as Ava stepped back and covered her mouth with her palm.
“Go get her,” Levi mumbled. “I can finish here.”
I took off my brass knuckles slowly and walked toward the door as she backtracked away from me.
“Ava,” I said my voice stern. “I told you not to leave.”
She gawked at me. “I thought you meant the restaurant,” she whispered.
Reaching forward, I grabbed her wrist and pulled her toward me but she recoiled into herself.
I hated this step backward she took from me. I’d worked so hard to get her to open up and now she was repulsed? What did she think being married to someone in the mafia meant?
Money? Where did she think it came from? Selling flowers and working 12-hour shifts at the local factory?
Not this kind of money.
