51 Tearing Pain
Freiherr appeared calm. Calantha couldn't help but recall that he hadn't answered her calls before she fell unconscious.
"How could you end up in a car accident?"
Calantha had just woken up and had yet to take a sip of water. Her throat was parched, making speech a struggle.
"I don't know. I can't predict accidents."
Her words emerged with difficulty, her voice resembling a hoarse, broken cello.
Her voice shocked Alexandra, who tightly gripped Freiherr’s sleeve, attempting to mask her fear and panic with an air of composure.
"Then have a good rest. Someone will manage the company's affairs. And don't bother calling me next time. I don't have time for your problems. It's quicker to involve your friends."
Calantha froze. She hadn't expected Mark to say such ruthless words.
She had turned to him in a life-threatening situation, expecting help, only to be told not to call again.
She had survived this time and was spared her life.
