Chapter 68 – A Safe Haven
Natalie waited patiently on the porch for her friend to arrive. A few things concerned her when she read Cassidy's text. What could have happened in the short time that she had left her friend from last night until now?
Her back straightened when she saw a golf cart coming over the small hill and up the path to the front of the house. As the cart got closer, Natalie could see the expression on her best friend's face.
Apparently, a lot could happen, and by the look of it, none of it was good.
Cassidy quickly pulled herself out of the cart and crutched toward the stairs. She needed to feel a sense of sanctuary once she stepped through the entryway of her house.
Gavin stayed close behind but also kept a certain distance behind her. He could sense that something was freaking Cassidy out and didn't want to cause her more tension or uneasiness.
Natalie smiled at Cassidy as she watched her come up the stairs. Natalie was impressed at how quickly she had gotten used to using her crutches.
