Damien didn't make it home until after nine pm. He was sweaty and hot. A nice warm shower was the only thing in his mind after having a long day at school and the gym.

His father's voice echoed through the walls before he could make it to the stairs. What now?
"Yes, father," Damien sighed. He turned around to face his father's glaring blue eyes.
"Where the fuck have you been, you little shit? Did you forget what you were supposed to do today?"

"I'm sorry. I lost track of time," Damien looked away. His father Ivan walked closer, then roughly gripped his shoulder.
"You were supposed to accompany Vanya. How am I supposed to trust you with the family business if you can't even show up for these important meetings?" Ivan's eyes bored into him.
"I said I was sorry. Maybe I was late because I was doing something important!" Damien exclaimed.
"What could be more important than what I asked you to do!" Ivan roared.
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe I'm just a wonderful Samaritan. I was helping little old ladies cross the street all day. And let me tell you, there were a lot of little old ladies out today," Damien hissed with sarcasm even though he knew his attitude wouldn't go unpunished.
Ivan looked at him and blinked twice.

His father raised his hand then backhanded Damien. Damien stumbled backward but didn't fall as he had his feet planted firmly on the ground. His face stung, and the corner of his eyes teared up slightly. His father didn't hold back. He could already feel bruises forming near his eyes.
"I expect you to stop fucking around with little boys at school and do some real work. Go wash that wound with this," Ivan said and walked over to the bar. He picked up a bottle of Vodka and threw it at Damien, which Damien caught with ease. "Don't drink this shit. The last thing I need right now is some useless teenager running around drunk. Now fuck off," Ivan barked.
As if I could drink if I wanted to, Damien thought. Systema forbade him from drinking and doing drugs as they could poison his body. Antonov saw great potential in Damien, so he didn't want to disappoint Antonov.
