Chapter 37: Avoidance

Rose POV: Rose knew this was the time to talk to Lizzie about Rick since she already brought him into the conversation. "Lizzie," she called. "Yes," Lizzie said, her eyes on Rose. "Okay," Rose said, her voice shaking. "We went into Rick's office..." "And we saw Bethany there," Lizzie prompted. "Right," Rose said. "But they were just talking. That's all. They weren't being intimate or anything." Lizzie's eyes widened. "Oh," she said. "So what we saw wasn't what it looked like?" "No, it was kind of." "Kind of," Lizzie said, watching her eyes widen. "Rick was not indulging in any of that." Lizzie looked at me scornfully. I could tell she wasn't believing anything coming from my mouth. "I'm not saying it because he is my brother." Lizzie looked at me for a second and looked away. "Bethany was trying to seduce him into giving her a promotion." Lizzie looked like she was hyperventilating as I said that, her face looking white as ever.
