The first day of the workshop was dragging, leaving me with a nagging feeling that was oddly similar to that one time I felt like I was about to lose my mind. I sighed as Livy led me by the arm toward another one of those team-building exercises — this one involving a bunch of ropes and blindfolds. It was supposed to teach us trust or something equally clichéd, but my heart wasn’t in it. How could it be when all I could think about was Damien?
“Come on, Charlotte,” Livy said with an encouraging smile as she handed me a blindfold. “You’ve been like a zombie all day. Let loose a little.”
I managed a weak smile in return, but it felt forced. “I’m trying, Livy, really. But these games… I don’t know. They’re just not doing it for me.”
She narrowed her eyes at me in that way she did when she knew I wasn’t being entirely honest. “Is this about Damien?”
I stiffened at the mention of his name, my fingers curling around the edge of the blindfold as I fumbled with it. “No,” I lied,
