Chapter 11: Kaya In Trouble

Mia's POV "Sh*t." I heard Serin swear from his position in front of Sol. I moved closer to them with Sarah at my side. "What's wrong?" I asked the two of them, concerned if that brother did something to make them unhappy, though I hadn't had the opportunity to be shocked about the fact Sol had a sibling. They didn't answer my question and seemed to hesitate to tell me something about the brother. I looked at Sol. My mind went back to the moment when we were heading to the company. His face had turned stoic after reading his messages on his phone. Were the messages from his brother? After he exited the meeting room, he seemed to be very tired. His body remained rigid. What happened in that meeting that made him so tense suddenly? What was wrong between Sol and his brother? I heard Sol sigh. He then pulled me to the side. "Are you all right?" I lowered my voice when I asked him. He nodded a bit. "It looks like you're a bit stressed." I raised my eyebrow at him and tilted my head. His face was downcast. He wouldn't look me in the eyes. I bent down just a bit to catch his eye and tilted my head at him. A wide grin broke out across his face. His hands came up from his sides to hold my face in his hands and lift my head. "You're silly," he softly said. "You're lying," I shot back. Sol let out a deep sigh. I watched him as he looked toward the direction of the meeting room and then back to me with a shake of his head. My eyebrows pulled together at his expression. I waited for his response. "It's nothing…" He pinched his forehead wearily. He looked like he was struggling to tell me something about his family. I suddenly realized that the situation was similar to the one that happened several hours ago when I also refused to tell Sol my stories. He was my boss. In fact, he didn't need to report or reveal any family information to me. Also, I shouldn't have been so aggressive to satisfy my curiosity. "Okay, never mind. I give up. Let's forget it." I raised my hands, showing I wouldn't push him. "If you think it's not the right time to share your worries with me, just let them go." "Thank you for your understanding. Well, actually, it's not a big secret. I just don't want to spread my worries and anxiety to you." Sol looked relieved. Before I could say something, Serin and Sarah came to us with concerning looks. Sarah asked, "Sol, Mia, are you alright? Is there anything we can do?" Sol just shook his head and smiled. "No. Thank you. I think I will feel better later." Although he showed his politeness, I knew he wasn't totally relieved. "Okay, well, Sarah and I should go back home," Serin told us. "Just call me if there's anything we can help with." Sol nodded to his friends and said, "Thanks." "It was good to see you again, Mia." Sarah hugged me tightly before she left. "I will definitely find a day to invite you to our home. Okay?" "That sounds great. Thank you, Sarah. I'll keep waiting by my phone." I hugged her back, and we exchanged our contacts. She then ran to her husband, who had already opened the door for her. When I turned to Sol, I saw him looking at me with a raised eyebrow. "What?" I asked him as I laughed. "When did you three become so close?" I shrugged. "You were in the meeting room for quite a bit of time, so we bonded." "Oh, you bonded?" he teased as he opened the door for me and let me out first. I scoffed at him, "Yes, Sarah had all sorts of juicy tales to tell me." "Oh?" he asked with a lilt to his voice. Thankfully, the previous tensions seemed to have been left in that building. "Anything about me?" I stopped in the lobby and looked at him with my eyebrows furrowed. I tapped my chin. "Well, I don't know. Sol, is there anything you want to tell me?" I watched with a stoic face, but not a little rising amount of amusement, as his eyes widened. He sputtered after me as I walked away. "What kinds of things?" he asked. "What did she tell you about me? Mia? What did she say?" He seemed nervous that I learned about him from his friends. I only laughed at his reaction. Sol stopped in front of me and narrowed his eyes at my reaction. He breathed out loudly, "She said nothing." I shook my head. "Were you messing with me? " The teasing smile on my lips gave him his answer. Before he said something, I felt my phone buzzing in my pocket, alerting me to an incoming call. Taking it out, I quickly read the caller ID. It was Kaya. I answered. "Hi, Kaya–" My greeting was cut off as her rushed voice quickly overpowered mine. "Mia? Where are you?" I furrowed my eyebrows and shot Sol a concerned look. "I'm out. Where are you?" I replied quickly. I heard a crashing sound from the other end following by loud yelling. "Kaya? Kaya, are you OK?" "Have you ever been to the club on the 11th street?" I was starting to become more confused as she spoke and ushered her to get to the point. "There's a bunch of weirdos here rubbing up on everyone. Can you come pick me up?" My eyes widened as she described the club to me. I quickly realized it was a well-known vampire club for newly turned vampires. How had Kaya even gotten inside? Sh*t. Did a vampire take her there? "Okay, Kaya, listen to me." I looked up at the sky and noted that it was still somewhat dark out. "Go into one of the bathroom stalls and just wait until I get there, okay?" "There's a lot of weird-looking people here Mia." I could hear the worry seeping into her voice. I shut my eyes tightly to stop a loud noise of frustration from leaving my mouth. "Kaya, go to the bathroom. Wait for me, and don't leave until I find you." I tried to make my voice sound as authoritative as possible and made sure she repeated the instructions back to me before I hung up. I quickly moved and reached the pavement side, whistled strongly for a taxi, and flagged one down. I was stopped getting in by a grip on my wrist. I turned to see a worried look on Sol's face. "Where are you going?" My eyes widened at the look on his face. I quickly moved to reassure him before I left. "I'll be back later," I told him. "I just have to pick up Kaya. Okay?" I gently pulled my arm out of his grasp. I could see the hesitation on his face, but he relented and let go of my hand. "I'll come back." I found myself reassuring him one last time before I gave the driver the club's address and drove away. I crossed my fingers in the taxi and prayed Kaya had listened to what I had said. Taking my handbag from my side, I found a bottle of water christened by a priest. It wouldn't do much against a pureblood for very long other than stun them. We needed that moment to run away, even it lasted for a short time. Sighing deeply, I gripped the bottle tighter. If it went worse, I would have to fight to protect Kaya. ###
