Jasper said softly to Charlotte, "Come on, let's get your check-up." The two of them walked past them and entered the examination room. Lucian said apologetically to Evelyn, "I was trying to save you some trouble, but I didn't expect to make you a target instead." Evelyn was nonchalant as she replied, "It's not your fault. Even if you hadn't said anything, they'd have found another reason to go after me." She seemed indifferent, but Lucian only felt more guilty. He had helped Evelyn at first out of obligation to Jasper. But after getting to know her, he realized she wasn't as fortunate as people thought.
