Chapter 9: Clinical Notes
"What are you thinking about, silly girl?" Edmond's voice suddenly entered my ears. "I was just reaching over to get a bandage. Why are you so impatient? Did you really miss me that much?" He was teasing me.
This guy was the worst!
"Get out of here! I can take care of this myself." I was so angry that I wanted to snatch the cotton swab and bandage from Edmond.
Edmond gently raised his hand and placed the bandage slightly out of reach. I hated how frustrated this made me feel!
My knee still hurt, but I was too irritated at this point to notice the injury. I jumped up to get the bandage.
"Ha ha, I've got it!" I was so delighted to have the bandage that I didn't even notice I'd missed the stairs and was thrown off balance.
No way, I was going to fall again?
My dear Moon Goddess, I could not afford to fall again.
Suddenly, I fell into two arms. Edmond caught me. His arms wrapped around my waist and helped me steady myself.
"Why so careless?" Edmond leaned close to my ear and asked. His hair brushed against my ear, which made me feel itchy.
However, I still could not forget what Edmond had done just now.
"None of your business." I pushed Edmond away with my hand and sat on the stairs by myself.
Edmond kept talking. "Do you think I want to do this? I have to ensure your safety cuz you're the mother of my kid."
Well, well, well. I finally understood what he meant. It turned out that he took good care of me so that he could have a high-quality kid.
"What am I then? A female animal for breeding?" I roared, giving Edmond a hard shove as he was bandaging me. "I said it's none of your business!"
Edmond had to put his hands on the ground to keep his balance. I expected him to get angry, but instead, he burst out laughing.
"Hey, silly girl, are you angry?" Edmond was still smiling cheekily as he continued to bandage my wound. "Don't move, or it'll hurt. If I don't treat it well, it might leave a scar. It won't look good if such a beautiful silly girl has a scar."
Why was he so shameless?
At that moment, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I couldn't refute him or push him away. I could only remain silent and let him apply the medicine to my wound.
Soon, Edmond skillfully bandaged my wound. Did he get injured often? I was kind of worried at the thought. Was I... worried about him?
"What are you waiting for? Let's go, girl. Aren't you curious about what's down there?" Edmond stood up and reached his hand out to me.
Right, there was something I had to do.
I followed Edmond to the basement with his help. We searched almost every corner of the place. Unfortunately, there were only abandoned needles and empty medicine bottles with undistinguishable labels.
We did not find anything helpful.
Now the only thing we got was this notebook.
Edmond and I left the underground space. He reinstalled the floor. The sofa was restored to its original position. It was as if nothing had happened in this room.
Edmond bent down and picked me up. He took me to the bedroom. When he was about to put me to bed, he stopped.
Oh, there were still Hank's disgusting bodily fluids on the bed.
Edmond frowned tightly. I saw a few veins bulge at his temples.
However, when he looked down at me, he had his usual gentle expression. "Hank didn't do anything to you, right?"
"Your spray is very effective," I replied. I did not want to recall what had just happened.
"Were you frightened?" His hand covered my eyes, keeping me from looking at the mess on the bed.
"It's alright." What Hank had done was creepy and disgusting.
Edmond returned to the living room and placed me on the sofa.
I watched as Edmond threw the bed sheets and blanket into the trash can with a cold expression. Then, he put the new blanket and bedsheets on the bed.
But even so, as he laid me down on that bed, I had a mental image of what Hank had done earlier. It grossed me out, and I opened my mouth, retching.
Edmond shook his head and put me back on the sofa. He got a pillow for me to lean on while he sat down beside me and pulled me into his strong arms. I could smell his cologne. It smelled so good that it made me feel really safe.
Edmond opened his notebook and I looked over the notes with him.
The handwriting was a little messy, and the pages were a bit yellowish. The ink written looked like old blue ink.
20 January 2003. Subject A136 was officially launched. Female, a beautiful brown wolf with a normal mental state.
19 February 2003. A136 suffered a seizure when injected and was suspended injections for a week.
26 February 2003. A136 returned to normal and continued to be injected.
5 March 2003. A136 was injected with the upgraded drug, Drug No. 188.
17 March 2003. While in captivity, A136 suddenly turned into her wolf form and ran into a wall. Probably a mental issue. Drug No. 188 was suspended.
26 June 2003. A136 lost control when injected with Drug No. 192 and injured the injecting man. We removed her arm.
28 August 2003. A136 was injected with Drug No. 194, and due to overdosing, she became a disabled wolf, losing the use of two legs.
30 September 2003. A136 was in an increasingly poor mood and in extremely poor health.
1 November 2003. A136 completely lost control and began to hit her head against the wall in an uncontrollable rage. She visisiouls bit the staff and was euthanized, killed by lethal injection. The last dose of the drug was administered on October 30th. It was drug No. 196.
The words were shocking. It recorded all the incidents of a normal Lycan from being sent here to being killed eleven months later. Although it was simple, it was extremely depressing.
Was this woman called A136 always imprisoned in such a dark basement? What was the drug they injected into her? Who was behind such a painful anti-Lycan incident?
A series of questions popped up in my mind. A little confused, I looked up at Edmond. He just stared at his notes without saying a word.
I took the initiative and said, "Edmond, I think this might help with my investigation a lot."
Edmond didn't answer me. He closed his notebook and put it under the cushion of the sofa. He lay down on his side, which required me to turn onto my side so that the narrow sofa could accommodate both of us.
Edmond hugged me from behind. Our bodies were tightly pressed together. I could feel Edmond's firm abs through our clothes.
"It's time to sleep. I'll help you investigate these things."
His voice was so mesmerizing, and his embrace felt so warm. I soon got sleepy.
When I woke up again, it was so bright.
Was it already noon?
I struggled to open my eyes, but because of the strong sunlight streaming through the window, I had to close them again. I subconsciously reached behind me, but I didn't feel the warm muscular male body I had fallen asleep next to.
Had Edmond left already?
This made me a little disappointed, so I made my way to the balcony to see if he was outside. I looked out into the distance and felt my heart sink as I saw two familiar figures.
It was Irene and Edmond. And Irene was holding Edmond's hand. They were so close to each other.
I somehow found this hard to accept. I returned to my room, unable to allow myself to watch the two of them walking away.
***
*Irene*
How infuriating! Liana was really a b*tch! When I went to Nightsong this morning, I clearly saw Edmond touching her face! Edmond's expression was so gentle, as if he was looking at his own mate. He had never even looked at me like that.
Had my Edmond really fallen in love with Liana?
Damn it! Liana had already seduced my father. And now she was also seducing Edmond too?
Edmond explained to me that he was only here to take care of Liana, who got sick. If he hadn't asked me to hold his arm, I wouldn't have believed it! There were so many servants in our manor. I didn't understand why Edmond had to take care of her?
Liana! The mention of this name infuriated me. I was going to teach her a lesson!
