"Where do you live?" Julien asked.
Shelmaine gave him an address.
Without further questions, he started the car.
Tammy gradually stopped crying, settling quietly in Shelmaine's arms. Shelmaine gently wiped the tears from Tammy's face, her heart aching at how frightened the little one must have been.
"Is Tammy alright?" Julien asked, glancing at the rearview mirror during a red light. He couldn't hold back his concern any longer.
"She's fine now," Shelmaine replied softly.
Julien hesitated before asking again, "How about you? Are you hurt?"
"No, I'm okay." Shelmaine shook her head. "Thank you for stepping in earlier."
If it hadn't been for Julien, Eliana would have taken Tammy. Shelmaine could hardly believe how far Eliana was willing to go—attempting to take Tammy by force was beyond anything she had imagined.
"No need to thank me," Julien replied, his gaze returning to the road as the light turned green and the car moved forward.
