"Hey, Sunny, hit me with another," I said, my voice a little hoarse. I pushed the empty shot glass towards the bartender, my fingers brushing against its cold surface.
Sunny, a stout man with a receding hairline and a permanent smirk, shook his head. "You sure that's a good idea, Damian?"
I leaned forward, my elbows on the bar, giving him a stern look. My Adam's apple bobbed as I swallowed the bitterness rising in my throat. "Why the hell do women lie so damn much?"
Sunny raised an eyebrow as he poured whiskey into my glass, the liquid swirling like all the wrong choices I'd made. "Women lie?" he repeated, sliding the drink across to me. "Or maybe you just got unlucky."
I snorted, grabbing the glass and tossing the shot back in one gulp. The burn was instant, a welcome distraction from the ache gnawing at my chest.
