CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY ONE – CLEANING EVIDENCE
Over the next few days, Joan and Alessandro worked tirelessly to cover their tracks. They spent long nights at the Lighthouse Counselling Centre, shredding documents and wiping computer hard drives.
"Are you sure this will be enough?" Joan asked as she fed another stack of papers into the shredder.
Alessandro nodded, his eyes scanning a document before tossing it into the pile. "It has to be. We can't leave any trace of our activities."
Joan paused, a thought occurring to her. "What about the staff? They must suspect something's going on."
Alessandro's expression darkened. "We'll deal with them if we have to. For now, just keep them in the dark as much as possible."
Joan nodded, trying to ignore the knot of guilt in her stomach. These people trusted her, and here she was, potentially putting them all in danger.
