Chapter 9: The Medication Was Swapped Maliciously

“You!” Jayda’s face turned blue with anger as she was called a dog by Lainey in public. She gritted her teeth and growled, “What evidence do you have to prove it’s me?” “Except for you, who else dares to talk such nonsense?” Lainey snorted coldly, “You are jealous of my identity, while you can only be an illegitimate daughter. Isn’t your mother brought you to work as a maid like a dog in my house because she has had an affair with my father since long ago?” Jayda’s face turned blue and then pale. “Lainey! What are you babbling about?” Impossible! How could Lainey know these secrets? She had always been stupid, how could she know such hidden secrets? “So she’s an illegitimate daughter! She’s wearing all designer clothes, so I thought she was from some kind of rich family. It turns out that she’s just a maid’s child! But she’s bragged about how great she is. Shame on her!” “That’s it! She spoke ill of Lainey so energetically, but it turns out that she’s just a servent in Lainey’s family. What’s more, Lainey was actually willing to be her bosom friend! It’s unbelievable!” The comments around made Jayda so embarrassed that she couldn’t even raise her head. Why? They had the same father. Why was Lainey so noble, while she was illegitimate? Jayda had always put on a look of knowledge and etiquette, pretending to be a young lady of note intentionally or unintentionally. Anyway, Lainey wouldn’t expose her as they were on good terms. Therefore, many people had thought Jayda was from a family of upper class under her conscious disguise. However, Jayda did not expect that Lainey would publicly expose her and make her the laughingstock! Jayda gritted her teeth, “Lainey, we have the same father. Don’t you think it’s too much for you to say that against me?” Lainey felt ridiculous. “Why didn’t you think it was too much when you started the rumor to defame me?” If Lainey hadn’t heard those conversations in person, she would never have been so aggressive. But since she had been aware of the facts, she couldn’t be the only one who suffered. The surrounding discussion almost overwhelmed Jayda. People’s focus had been shifted from whether Lainey went to serve a man to Jayda’s being the illegitimate daughter of Lainey’s father. The discussion of the people around them grew louder and louder, overwhelming Jayda completely. Seeing that Jayda had already been hoisted by her own petard, Lainey turned around and took Elvira, who had already been stunned by what she had seen, out of here. “My god, Jayda is your father’s illegitimate daughter? I can’t believe you could be good friends with her before!” “Oh, stop it! I only found out about it recently and I feel so disgusting.” “It’s indeed disgusting, and I wouldn’t be able to stand it if I were you.” At this time, Lainey’s phone rang. It was a strange number. “Hello?” “It’s me.” Winfred’s low voice came out from the mobile phone. Lainey smiled instantly, “Mr. Sloan, what’s the matter?” On the other end of the line, Winfred subconsciously frowned. How long had it been since they parted? Why was she so alienated? “When is your school over? I’ll have Vernon pick you up.” “No, thanks.” Lainey politely declined Winfred’s offer, “I want to go visit my mother after school.” Lainey hadn’t told her mother about her decision to marry Winfred yet, and she hadn’t visited her mother for a long time, so she would visit her mother. “All the more reason to have Vernon pick you up if you want to go visit your mum.” “Why?” Winfred’s words rendered Lainey confused. What did Vernon have to do with her mother? “I’ve asked Vernon to transfer your mother to a private nursing home at noon. There is a specialized staff to take care of her, which is conducive to her getting better. So if you want to visit her, you’ll have to get Vernon to take you there.” “Have you transferred my mum to somewhere else?” Lainey was surprised. All these years her mum had been convalescing in the previous hospital. Now although she couldn’t take care of herself, at least she could communicate normally sometimes. How could she go with them obediently? But when Lainey stepped into the Bonn Sanatorium, the most famous one in Chanvale, she was completely stunned. The building of this sanatorium was no different from a villa. The patients were all taken good care under the one-to-one mode. Unlike the common psychiatric nursing homes where one heard yelling and screaming as soon as he entered, this place was so quiet that others would not know that the people living here were mental patients if they were not told. “The cost here must be very high, right?” Lainey asked. Vernon grinned, “Miss Warren, don’t worry. Mr. Sloan has already paid the fees.” In fact, there was no cost at all as this sanatorium was simply Winfred’s property. Yet Vernon didn’t dare to tell Lainey about it without Winfred’s permission. “Why does he have to spend this money? Doesn’t it good to save his money for future plastic surgery?” Lainey muttered. Although the environment here was good and it could do good to her mother’s recover, the cost must be expensive. Therefore, Lainey felt a little guilty to have Winfred help her pay for it. Well, from tomorrow onwards she must seriously find a part-time job and work hard, so that in the future she could take Winfred to Uscein for plastic surgery! “Ahem...” Vernon almost choked on his own saliva and hurriedly covered his mouth to hide his snicker. Lainey soon met her mother, Alena Warren. Alena looked pretty good except for that she was still a bit dull. She didn’t react even when Lainey called her. “Mum, I’m Lainey! Don’t you recognize me?” Lainey squatted in front of her mother’s wheelchair, feeling a little sad. Her mum had been like this for years and hadn’t got any better. “Miss Warren, don’t worry. When we transferred your mother here, we’ve already asked the doctors to check her thoroughly. They said she will slowly get better.” Vernon comforted. Lainey nodded silently. She must protect and cure her mother! After coming back to the Heyday Mansion from the sanatorium, Lainey went upstairs to her own room directly because of the low mood. Vernon walked into the study. Winfred was dealing with work in the study. “You’re back.” “Miss Warren looks sad.” “That’s normal. Alena is her mother after all. She had been fine, but she suddenly became crazy. Who can’t be sad?” “Mr. Sloan, why don’t you let me tell Miss Warren about the facts?” Vernon asked in confusion. The fundamental reason why Alena’s mental illness had not improved over the years was that her medication had been maliciously swapped! In the original sanatorium, all the calming and tranquilizing medicines of Alena were replaced with drugs that could depress and drive people to madness. That was why Alena did not get better after having been treated for so long!
