Chapter 8: A Dog of Our Warren Family
“I think it’s better for you to tell her honestly! We don’t know what will happen if you wait for her to find out on her own! You’re cheating!”
Looking at the human skin mask in Winfred’s hand, Hector suggested.
Winfred narrowed his eyes at the mask that had accompanied him for several years coldly.
“I’ll wait a little longer! After so many years of being like this, the outside world has long recognized me as an ugly person, and a sudden change in appearance will alert the enemy.”
Moreover, keeping this appearance would allow him to better tease Lainey, which he found quite interesting.
Thinking of Lainey, Winfred showed a rare smile.
Hector and Vernon looked at each other, and both of them had the same thought in their hearts. That was, Winfred seemed to have fallen in love this time.
Lainey had finally come back to life after resting for a day.
She had to go to school today because she had already taken two days off.
“I’ll have Vernon drive you after breakfast.”
Winfred pushed a glass of milk and two slices of bread in front of Lainey as he said.
Lainey checked the time, finished the milk in one gulp, picked up the bread and rushed outside.
“I’m off now. Goodbye, Winfred!”
Vernon, who was waiting aside, immediately followed.
Watching Lainey went out like a bird out of the cage, Winfred pursed his lips.
He loved hearing Lainey call him Honey more.
Lainey met Jayda as soon as she returned to school.
“Lainey! I can’t believe you’re still alive!”
Jayda widened her eyes incredulously.
What was going on?
Wasn’t it said that Winfred was a murderer? How come he didn’t kill Lainey?
“You’d love to see me dead, right? But I’m sorry to disappoint you. Look, I’m alive and well.”
Lainey rolled her eyes at Jayda coldly, her tone no longer as cute and sweet as before.
In the past, she treated Jayda as a bosom friend, and would tell Jayda whatever was on her mind. However, she didn’t expect that Jayda actually wished for her to die!
If Lainey hadn’t overheard those contemptible words yesterday, Lainey wouldn’t have dreamt that Jayda wasn’t the housekeeper’s daughter at all. Instead, Jayda’s mother was her father’s mistress, and Jayda was her father’s illegitimate daughter!
She treated Jayda as one of her best friends, respected Estelle and Rooney, but in the end the three of them were secretly scheming how to let her die.
This was a betrayal that Lainey could never forgive.
Jayda didn’t know that Lainey had already known her identity, so she was still playing dumb and deliberately pretending to be innocent.
“Lainey, what’s wrong with you? Have you been stimulated to the point of insanity by serving that maniac? I am concerned about you!”
Although Jayda said she was concerned about Lainey’s situation, she raised her voice so that the people nearby could hear. Instantly, many people fixed their eyes on Lainey.
Lainey had been stimulated to the point of insanity by serving that maniac!
This statement revealed so much that it was hard not to overthink.
Lainey was angry.
“I don’t need your fake concern!”
Lainey didn’t want to talk to such a hypocrite at all.
Lainey thought angrily and quickly left for the classroom.
As soon as Lainey left, a few gossipers immediately came over to Jayda.
“Jayda, what do you mean by what you just said? Who did Lainey go to serve?”
“Well,” Jayda falsely covered her mouth tightly, “I promised Lainey I couldn’t tell anyone else.”
“Gee, what are you afraid of? We promise we won’t spill the tea!”
By the time Lainey had finished her morning class, everyone in the school was discussing that she had gone to serve the ugly and ruthless Mr. Sloan for money and had been tortured and driven mad by him.
As a result, there were always people dishing out criticism to Lainey wherever she went.
Someone even pelted Lainey with eggs and yelled at her for being shameless when she went to the canteen.
“Lainey!”
Elvira Torres, Lainey’s best friend, ran over out of breath. Then she took the hand of Lainey, who was stunned by the eggs, and walked out of the canteen.
“Elvira, what’s wrong?”
Lainey hadn’t figured out the situation yet.
“How could you ask me what’s wrong? Don’t you realize you’re now a negative figure on campus?”
Elvira took Lainey outside to the playground, and told Lainey the slanderous gossips she had heard. Then she asked, “Tell me, did you really go to serve that kind of man for money?”
“What?”
Lainey was angry. These words must have been deliberately spread by Jayda! Otherwise, how could others know that she went to serve Winfred?
“What the hell is going on? Tell me!”
Elvira simply didn’t believe that Lainey would be this kind of person.
However, to Elvira’s surprise, Lainey nodded heavily, “There is such a thing, and it can be put like this.”
It was true that she promised Vicente to marry Winfred in order to get investment for the Warren family. Yet she hadn’t slept with Winfred now. How could Jayda say she served Winfred?
“What?” Elvira’s eyes widened, “Did you really do such a thing?”
“No, Elvira, you’ve got it wrong.” Lainey hurriedly told the story to Elvira. Finally, she concluded, “So now Winfred is my husband. It’s not like what other people say!”
Perhaps because Elvira was in too much shock, she stared at Lainey with her mouth wide open for a long time before she screamed out, “So you really married that maniac, didn’t you?”
“Don’t talk about Winfred like that. He’s very nice and not at all like what is said outside.”
Lainey spoke up for Winfred. She didn’t want others to slander him behind his back.
Elvira thought Lainey was crazy.
No, she was crazy too as she could actually listen to Lainey finish the whole story calmly.
“So what are you going to do now? I don’t know which son of a bitch bullshitted. Now you’re known as a promiscuous woman, and everyone in the school is cursing you.”
“I know who said that.”
Lainey replied with a sullen look. Except for Jayda, there was no one else who dared to make such a rumor.
“Let’s go! I’m going to get her!”
When Lainey and Elvira found Jayda, she was flirting with two seniors. Seeing Lainey and Elvira coming over, Jayda simply ignored them as if she didn’t see them.
“Jayda.”
Lainey’s voice was calm as she picked up the plate in front of Jayda and poured the food over Jayda’s head. Immediately, the white dress on Jayda was stained a lot.
“Ah!”
Jayda screamed out of control and jumped up to remove the food on her head, glaring viciously at Lainey, “Lainey! Are you out of your mind!”
Suddenly, a clear slap was heard.
Lainey smacked Jayda under the gaze of so many people.
“How dare you to hit me?” Jayda was slapped dumbfounded, covering her face in disbelief, “Lainey, how could you hit me?”
“Because you’re a dog of our Warren family!”
Lainey uttered coldly.
“My mother took pity on you and your mother for being homeless and took you in, employing your mother as the housekeeper of my family. In that case, you have a much better life. Is this how you requite kindness with enmity by slandering my reputation?”
